Yoo! I hadn't browsed Mapcore in a long time and missed my old friends! Came back here and the latest posts are like from a year ago or more 😕 Are any of the old guard still around? Hope you're all doing great, give a sign of life!
Cheers 🍻

The forum is basically dead. They are all on discord.
I can't cope with Discord, you have to be wired in every day in a community to make sense of it. I don't see how a community like this works better there but whatevs. I logged in only to check some old pm for a contact
PS: nice new forum skin btw

Yeah, it's two different things. Discord is like IRC back in the day, good for quick banter, but with a forum you can build a wealth of knowledge that can be stored and accessed over time. Things in Discord are pretty "disposable", and the different conversations just merge into one another. It's really hard to follow any conversations if the server grows over a few dozen people
It has its uses, but in no way it can replace a forum. Also do recruiters even hang out in Discord to find talent? It's much easier to expose your work on a forum. With time people will realize this and come back.
I will make an effort to log in more often here, would hate to see the forum that we've had for 25 years or so just die a silent death!
Speaking about that... when was Mapcore founded? Did we miss a chance to celebrate the 25th anniversary?
That's a quarter of a century....
I'm pretty sure the only place recruiters hang out is linkedin lol
Hi Minos!
seir here
Same as Minos said for my part. It's very hard for me to follow everything on Discord...lol, not hard but quite impossible. And because of that, I never (or very very rarely) post something there as it will be quickly lost in the multiple exchanges and conversations living there. Perhaps it's something that, we, as "older", feel more than the younger ones among us.
Even I'm still here
It’s kind of sad that everyone has moved to Discord and the forum is almost abandoned… but I guess that’s the price of progress. I came here hoping to find an active community.

#mapcore is still being idled on, with SonicDM and KidDynamite.
ohh which server?
It's warmed my heart seeing all these old faces. 😄 People I used to chat with daily as much as 25 years ago. We were all part of each other's formative memories, had a really unique (weird) culture, and it's a time I miss greatly — along with most of the 2000s, lol.
But I'm so glad Mapcore still thrives thanks to great work done by FMPONE, Vaya, and others to cultivate a new era for the community on Discord where it stood a better chance of survival.
That doesn't change the sense of loss that can be felt by those who were around for the earliest days though. Even with the forums still here, those times are simply gone now. I’ll continue to keep the forums going for as long as I’m around though.
