    Oh my lord... the entitlement!

Back in the day, when you bought Street Fighter II (or any other game) for the Genesis, it wouldn't run on the SNES or any other console. It's hard enough to make a game for one platform, it's an extra pain in the ass to make it multi-platform, now there's this extra stuff to worry about? Yeah... no.

When you go out for a concert the ticket is valid for that one venue. When you go to a sports event, ticket is valid on that stadium When you go to a restaurant, you can't order the food in a place, then claim you wanna eat it in another.

Creating the expectation that a video game (or any other software) needs to run on your kitchen toaster because you "bought the game" is so unrealistic it's almost comical.

    Well, well, well

"LastLast week, 2K Sports announced that it would raise the price of NBA 2K21 by $10 — from $59.99 to $69.99 — for next-generation video game consoles. To see all the bells and whistles on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, consumers will need to pay a little more than they did the year before. The announcement caused famously opinionated game consumers to erupt on social media and online forums. Many wondered out loud if the cost of AAA console video games, after remaining constant for the last 15 years, could be going up across the board."

"The United States of America's video games trade body The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) claims that almost two-thirds of the population play games. That's according to its 2020 Essential Facts report for the industry, in which it says that over 214m US citizens play games out of a total population of around 328.2m.

49 per cent of US gamers play on PC, coming in behind games consoles and phones, which take 52 per cent and 61 per cent respectively. Casual games are the most popular genre, racking up 71 per cent support, ahead of action games – 53 per cent – and shooters, which were played by 48 per cent."

Thank you Fortnite for inflating the numbers and making me feel there's so many hardcore players around XD

"Electronic Arts faces €10 million fine over FIFA loot boxes in the Netherlands.

A study of loot boxes in ten videogames conducted in 2018 by the Netherlands Gaming Authority—the Kansspelautoriteit, or Ksa—determined that four of them were in violation of the country's gambling laws, and would have to be changed. No names were provided at the time, but the agency warned that "enforcement action" would be taken if the required changes weren't put into place by June 20 of that year.

In a statement released today, the Ksa said that most of the companies involved in the matter complied as required, but Electronic Arts did not, and as a result it's now facing fines of up to €10 million ($11.7 million): €5 against EA itself, and €5 million against EA Swiss Sàrl, a division of the company that processes payments in some countrries."

At best (worst?) you could compare it to region locked titles, but to insinuate it's comparable to people complaining their genesis cartridges don't fit into their SNES is honestly just disingenuous, it's the same platform.

Well no, Stadia and Now are different platforms, just like Steam, Gog or Uplay. You don’t buy a game on Uplay and expect it to appear on your Steam account.

Just like you don’t expect to find Netflix exclusives on Amazon Prime Video.

I do get what you mean, I remember at the beginning of the smartphone era being kinda annoyed at the thought that if I changed from one OS to the other I would have to pay again for the same app. After all is not like I’m using it at the same time… but why should another company sustain the cost of distribution, for as little as it is, when you pay another company?

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but 2K sure knows monetization.

I think this would go in the cost of games thread, but it's fine. Maybe we should merge those two threads idk.

900m sounds like nothing after that Zenimax purchase by MS for 7.5b. Sure, it's not a conglomerate of studios, but still..

Even that wasn’t that impressive, when compared to acquiring Minecraft/Mojang for 2B.

Considering the sheer amount of beloved IPs and studios Zenimax brought in, feels almost like a bargain ?

The complaints about Frostbite engine seem a bit of a pretext… other EA studios have made driving games (with essentially a third person camera as well as first person) with it. What is this story about no saves when this is MP? I mean, BF does save player’s stats/unlocks… ~ Recent news were saying there’s a Skelton crew of 30 working, aiming for a major rework, but that the EA board is deciding whether to kill the game in the near future.
