Yep, Valve Is Experimenting With Half-Life In VR....

    http://kotaku.com/yep-valve-is-e…n-vr-1689726340

I'm quite happy by this, that they are experimenting with what works, rather then just chucking all they have and hoping it sticks, I'd be quite interested to see how L4D & DOTA played out in their VR experiments though, especially with their game control system.

These are nice and all and I really hope they do well and shake up the console market a bit since the current next gen consoles are really lacking in power it seems.

But my biggest worry with these Steam Machines is that the common gamer might not understand the system specifications and how they might effect how well a game runs. I mean someone might buy the cheapest steam machine and buy the next Withcher game expecting it to run perfectly smooth but it might not since the machine might not be powerful enough (I'm not looked at many of the specs but this problem could occur I guess.)

I would have thought Valve would have made it simpler for people to see at a glance which games will work well on which Steam Machines so the consumer can make a more informed choice about which machine they buy.

Some colour grading system would be nice I guess. E.g: "This Steam Machine is rated Red and will play any games rated Red at 1080p 60fps etc."

    Just my two cents.

Good luck to Valve and its partners though!

I honestly think, Steam Machines will be a fail. They are too expensive and in the end "just" PCs with another OS. If you have a console, games are optimized specifically for the system and you can expect games to run fine. With different Steam Machines you won't have this benefit. You are better off with a normal PC with good specs. Steam runs perfectly on it aswell.

It's just Dota 2 running and some of the GLAVE debugger running Dota 2.

This was the talk/panel at the EGX Rezzed. Nothing to be seen, no video were shown. Wasn't groundbreaking, still might be interesting.

From my experience doing my own Steam Machine, it's not very worth it. In my experience, it was a Fez machine, then a "type in a terminal and swear at Linux's generally bad wireless support" machine.

Of course with hardware meant to run it, it should work much better. You will still need to deal with the performance of Linux games though. I was having trouble running L4D2 at 60 fps on a 560 gtx. Once linux gets less finicky, it should be worth it. Buuuut the question is when that will happen.

Also i preordered a steam controller. I still had money from selling a TF2 hat :P

Waited for their controller for ages, when they announced the autumn release I decided I codnt wait that long. Anyway reviews for this are a must -- although feedback was generally positive

hmm I have a decent PC so a Steam machine purchase is not a the top of my list. I'm considering to get a PS4, but a Steam Link and controller might be a better/cheaper alternative. Interesting!

I tried it out when I was visiting Valve last year (or two years back? Can't remember). Back then it looked like when they first announced it (no analog stick) and it was already working pretty well.

I would Preorder if it was possible over here.
