I don't get these questions, its the same policy that has existed since the beginning of the current generation... What is confusing about that?

I think the fear is that if a publisher is free to implement any kind of restriction, they could do themselves "always online" requirements and the likes.

Sounds like Sony is actually pretty serious about this whole 'download part of a game and start playing before the rest downloads' thing:

    http://kotaku.com/so...for-p-514144920

In principle I love the idea, but as some of you explained earlier it's far from trivial to implement in a game and it certainly isn't going to work for games that haven't been specifically engineered to take advantage of it. But, if programmers to start seriously getting on board with this at Sony's behest, could it work well? As someone who deals with preloading techniques a bit I can definitely speculate about ways they could manage it, but it'd require a fairly careful strategy for each game.

I guess the question is whether or not developers want to do it. But programmers are often known for wanting to be innovative rather than just sticking to the status quo, some might want to integrate this just for the sheer challenge of it. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out because I personally have experienced the pain of downloading increasingly big games on a slow internet connection and it is truly the worst.

It makes sense for downloads that last many hours to complete. But if the game is not that large and/or download speed is very high, then it's not worth the trouble of implementing it.

I did miss this, and I don't recall them even announcing in the conference:

It's quite funny nobody pointed out Valve implemented the progressive delivery already when they launched Half-Life 2 on Steam.

They seem to have "fixed" the immediacy problem with the pre-load feature btw.

I think a DD system should have both aspects, to offer the best service.

Now, the problem with the progressive download feature is that it is aimed to linear single-player games, right? I mean, how can you "start playing" a simple mp-dm oriented game, where the first map the gamer will play is totally randomic? What if I'm downloading COD but I want to play mp first, instead of the campaign. What about a sandbox, where the player could potentially be driving since the first minute to wherever he likes (see Just Cause 2).

Is that referred to Outlast or something else?

Ahhhhh SHIT. Q4 2014 for The Division.

I hope they do a good job of PlanetSide 2 for the PS4, that could potentially be some good shit. Battlefield 4 will be a big win too if they can make use of the pointer (ie: no horrible stick aiming).

Have you looked at the launch title list? It's... sort of terrible I don't think this gen's launch titles were that impressive either so meh xD But I might wait till a price drop, don't really see any incentive of getting one early, except for Watch Dogs.

Yeah, It's nothing fantastic, but I wasn't expecting more either. But it's still enough to get you going for a few months, loads of games will be released during 2014.
