How are you all so good at this game, playing on Classic and all that? I'm playing on Normal and the bodies keep stacking up. I spent all my money on new recruits, which then get slaughtered on first contact with badguys ![]()

Patience, caution, and considering every option you have. Also, get Carapace armor and laser rifles ASAP, it really helps keeping your squad alive.
Also, some pretty good tips. Learned most of it the hard way tho

I found that sending in a mech to trigger the encounter can really help keep people alive, also don't be afraid to retreat and setup your own ambush. I play with two snipers, two support (healers) and 1 heavy + a suicide mech, works well for me..
Use high ground (duh) set your snipers (or just about anyone) to over watch before you spring the trap, make sure you keep your squad a little spread out so the AI won't bother to throw a grenade and use suppression/smoke grenades when somebody is in trouble!

Finished it now.. Will start on Ironman later today.
The ending was, well easy. Took me 2 turns...
-
Started an ironman normal run at lunch today, lost my sniper to a hit kill in the 3rd mission. Doing alright so far I think though.
-
Just finished a Normal Ironman playthrough, after multiple Classic Ironman disasters. Lots of fun!
They polished the finicky edges off the original, it feels so nice to make discrete moves as opposed to worrying about time units. Decisions are immediate and clear.
Also, snipers are gods in this with Squad Sight and Double Tap.
QuoteMy sniper finished the last room of the last mission with two critical shots, before that Uber Ethereal could even move.

Playing Ironman normal right off the start. Love this game! I up and stopped playing Dishonered for this!
Btw, thanks for posting the Strat video, it helps

-
Just finished the game.
QuoteAweeeesome stuff, though I was very disappointed by the ending. I didn't like fighting on the Alien ships as much as on Earth, and thought it was a bit boring. Part of the fun of Xcom is not knowing where the enemy are, but in the last mission you know that each room is going to have a set amount of enemies in it and that takes the fun out of it, in my opinion.
-
Dishonored is next to me, but i even didnt unbox it,
i just love XCOM - why this is the best game !?

-
Actually feeling pretty good about my Classic Ironman playthrough, and that's even with having lost 4 countries in the council, and just losing one of my colonel snipers and support soldiers. Still haven't taken on the alien base, trying to get an all colonel squad before I do that, but I've noticed that it just naturally starts throwing the tougher enemies at you over time. Was worried that they'd just tied enemy types to certain research breakthroughs, but it seems like there's a steady progression over time, and that you only have so much time before they start throwing the really tough stuff at you.
-
Lost 4 so far, 2 newbs and 2 cpts. Last one I lost at lunch had 11 missions and 21 kills

-
My ass is srsly getting wooped !

-
just finished the game, if i can call it that way, ALIENS won
! -
I just lost an awesome sniper. FML.

McCann* and yeah, i've been listening to the main theme way too much while working. It does kind of sound like DX:HR, but it's kind of got this edge that I like better.
-
Aye, love the music. Been playing it for over 60 hours now, and I'm still not tired of it~

I love the soundtrack too, though it has that Inception Horn/Trumpet thing that everyone always hates! I love a few of the more atmospheric tracks, specifically some of the UFO landing ones. They have a very Xcom (the original) feel to them.
Listen to this, you'll know what I mean:

QuoteThe company also noted that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is "proving to be a critical and commercial success."
Good news~~ Was so worried that it wouldn't sell enough, but from the sound of this then it sounds like it's doing well enough. So hope they'll get the chance to make a sequel on the back of this~
