I might be explaining the obvious here though.

I’m not sure, I mean it’s pretty clear they “feel”. That’s not what I’m bothered with the storytelling.

I was dwelling more, and realised that there is that moment when the “head of resistance” talks with pity to K. Basically the writer makes fun of the spectator for falling for their red herring :/

I have a bit more to criticise: the other big thing that is lacking here is setting up the scene.

Like mentioned in a post above “the new Tyrell” is a bit of a faceless guy, I mean there’s no depth to it… I can’t even remember his name other than it starts with “W” (also if you have to watch a short to understand who he is – it’s bad).

Most importantly, in Blade Runner there was quite a lot going on, there was culture of 2019 explained, 2049 is lacking all this background depth. Think of the scenes at the market/sushi bar, the strip club… the new movie it’s basically visual porn. Yes incredibly truthful to the original, but very superficial. Imo.

I love how this movie is #1 Box Office and it's still considered a box office flopp.

Edit: Apparently it's doing really well internationally tho, which is good.

I haven't seen the original yet, but I know there are different versions out there, extended cuts, remastered etc. Which one should I see?

There's 3 versions, the original theatrical version (stay the fuck away from it), directors cut and final cut.

Indeed the Final cut is the best one, although I don't like they tinted the movie with a weird green color, it lost the purple shading the two cuts before had, which is a shame.

PS: I don’t know what they included in the Final Cut, but I have the Definitive Edition in “old” DVD format, but there is artbook, a dvd only on the making of, commentaries and alternate endings.

i think that’s the version to own.
