you rent what ever you can for your first job, you have no choice to share/get a shit hole if that's all you can afford. Get a studio flat somewhere, 1 room with everything you need. My first apartment was utter dreadful, if u gota live in a shit area and a building thats about to fall down you will have to

Didn't see this thread until now, 5 pages later Once again, big congrats, we're really happy to have you.

I hope you'll find a good place to stay. Shared house isn't that bad, it all comes down to what kind of people you get to share with, and that's always a bit random since people come and go. I pay around £370 for my room, and it's a decent size room in a 4 room house with living room and a big garden. The cool thing about living near the science park though is that most tenants are young professionals, often with different nationalities. My worst case scenario so far was a Lithuanian guy who was really high and stayed up all night watching recorded live performances of a band called Earth Wind and Fire with the volume at max. When I got up for work the day after he was still downstairs watching, laughing at how funny their clothes were.

I can ask around and see if there's anyone at work who's got a spare room, so that you can stay with frontier people and minimize the risk of getting utter weirdos.

Oh shiii I remember, my first 6 months working at Climax I lived in a bed and breakfast place, can actually be cheaper than your own place, giving you time to find a really nice place. It was something like 30 pounds a night, but you get free breakfast and don;t even have to tidy your room

Luxury... In two years in Sao Paulo I've lived under a bridge, inside an abandoned car, in a whorehouse, in a shoebox, in a subway station and in a parking lot. Most of my room mates consisted of crack addicts, transvestites and producers. Consider yourself lucky little man.

Luxury! when I started work at Dice I had to live in this tiny old house with great big holes in the roof. Well, when I say 'house' it was only a hole in the ground covered by a sheet of tarpaulin, but it was a house to me, and when I was evicted from my hole in the ground I had to go and live in a lake. I was lucky to have a lake! Before thatthere were a hundred and fifty of us living in a shoebox in the middle of road. Still, luxury compared to when I lived with my family; we lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

And you try and tell the young people of today that ..... they won't believe you.
