I disliked the trailer at first, the first minute is boring. It takes a lot of time to actually hit me emotionally... And it only did so the second time, but also only partially cos it was the 2nd time I saw it. I also wouldn't have watched it again if it weren't for everyone hyping (overrating?) it at the office.

Also, the little girl is so fugly and looks so fake compared to the rest causing the "uncanny valley" effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley

    Quote

Mori's hypothesis states that as a robot is made more humanlike in its appearance and motion, the emotional response from a human being to the robot will become increasingly positive and empathic, until a point is reached beyond which the response quickly becomes that of strong revulsion. However, as the appearance and motion continue to become less distinguishable from a human being, the emotional response becomes positive once more and approaches human-to-human empathy levels.[7]

So yeah, revulsion towards the little girl... She wasn't just realistic enough.

Not sure what I think of it in the end... It's too long, that's certain... At least for me it was.

I hope the combat will not be the same like in L4D as well as movement, I also hope they make it very story driven.

Dunno, not really interested... They'll have to do better with gameplay videos to actually get me to buy another zombie game. If they turn it into a brainless action game I'm not gonna like it, that's for sure. We'll see.

I wrote up some thoughts on the trailer: http://blog.button-masher.net/2011/02/1 ... -of-games/ {shameless blog promotion, eh? )

Awsome suggestion, if the game is like that: A short game in which death is inevitable and you have a sandboxy environment in which you're free to handle the situation. Then it's insta buy, it's probably not gonna be as original though. My bet is on what I described earlier, but I really hope it isn't.

What could be more interesting? It was intended to have a poignant, personal tragedy to showcase the larger tragedy of everyone getting killed by zombies. A montage of a bunch of different people getting killed would be more impersonal as there would be no time to feel for these characters before we move on to the next, leaving the trailer feeling like "just another zombie thing". The point of the trailer was to set a mood and cultivate anticipation for the game based on that. Being generic would go against that and make people dismissive.

but that's the thing: it doesn't feel poignant, it just feels over done, as if it's supposed to convey some meaning but without having a trace of that meaning whatsoever. it isn't interesting, it's boring: zombies killing people. haven't we seen this before? so it's a family, are you supposed to feel different now?

just because it worked for you doesn't mean it works for everyone; you're confusing opinion for fact. i'm sure rick would be proud of me now.

lol only sentura would try to find the meaning of life in a zombie game

Since when does a zombie game need to have morals to be fun?

it was exactly these kinds of idiotic posts i wagered i'd see after posting my opinion. i never said a zombie game needs morals to be enjoyable, but we're not even talking about the goddamn game here, we're talking about a glorified trailer. maybe it did something for you. fine. but that doesn't mean it did something for me.

ps: every decent movie out there, even trailers, have a moral. there needs to be a reason for a story to be told.

The aim of the trailer was to make it hit home how those you love becoming the murderous enemy would be rather distressing, never demonstrated more effectively than when your own daughter turns against you.

Clearly this hits some much more than others, and it's far from a new theme — most zombie movies involve such conflicts. The reason people like the trailer is because it takes a standard element of most zombie fiction and does it in quite an evocative manner. It is undeniably a novel way of presenting such a scene.

It's not perfect and I think the hype has brought out many people's natural resistance, but it's a nice little teaser. It's not like there won't be later trailers that show the proper gameplay some so desire.

and this is supposed to be a mature forum. hmpf.

The trailer takes an easy shot without telling you anything about the game. I thought it was balls too.

But it's a trailer so who cares.

Your like the only Canadian who didn't like it [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif] It was no where near balls though. Well, big ass hairy awesome balls, it was! But no shitty little tiny balls, no!

P.S. And BTW, you guys are really overthinking the trailer. It was awesome, majority rules, GTFO, lets talk about something else!

It's obviously put together well but it ain't no Dawn of War Blur intro or the recent Deus Ex trailer. It's rare I let CG get the better of me.

I thought it was just as good as both of those in its own way. Why compare Most of the game trailers this year have been epic.

I hate CG trailers, why pass up the opportunity?

Stuff that serves as purely a marketing tool isn't very interesting. If I can't get anything remotely real out of it it's just not worth investing in it.

Clearly the only one here trying convince others of their opinion is you, no? Think about it now, maybe read back a few pages of comments.

For some reason I always assumed it was against the law to show minors getting killed in a video game... It was rather disturbing to see that youngun in the vid TBH.

what gave you that impression? the only reason i gave my opinion was because someone asked. i honestly don't care what people think about this trailer.

Good trailer with a unique twist that is rightly getting lots of press. Looking forward to this one.
