true, but i foresee valve growing to be the number one online mp gaming supplier within a few years. if they are the standard for online mp, retail games wont be worth much anymore because the online mp will have less support outside of steam, wich means there will be less competition. little competition + free market means pretty much the consumer is screwed. wich is me...

Well if the rest of the digital distribution industry would make their product as good as Steam, this wouldn't be an issue. I've used Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive, and EA's download manager. Surprisingly, the last one was the most convenient one, and it's still pretty horrible compared to Steam.

Mafia 2, really great game so far. Who ever worked on the environment is ace, very inspiring.

Ever try Gamersgate or the Blizzard store, or GOG? They work the same way, you download a small installer .exe that downloads and installs the game. Gog's and GG's are better, since they're not a torrent client so they tie up less resources. I've used Steam, Impulse, GFWL, Gamersgate, GOG, and Blizzard store. Good Old Games and Gamersgate are by far the best solution. Impulse and GFWL are terrible. No options, stupid clumsy client, they beg to be directly compared to Steam and both come up sorely lacking.

Also I got Gears of War 1 and The Witcher today. Gears of War 1 is absolutely atrociously terrible, and it killed my enthusiasm for games a bit, so I haven't touched The Witcher. Seriously, how could anyone think enemies that take 2+ clips of ammo each to die is fun? Shit's horrid. And you have 1/10th their health so good luck running up for chainsaw kills. And you can't that I could tell cook the grenades, and the enemies would all run away from them as they landed, dodging them most of the time. And you lose all ability to steer when you sprint. Playing as Marcus Fenix couldn't feel less fun to play if he had no legs and I had to control crawling around on the ground QWOP style.

I really enjoyed Gears of War when I played it a while back, but it was mainly the split screen co-op that was fun.

I fell for the Valve trap and bought Poker Night at the Inventory and Chime. Poker Night is ok, the dialog wears thin really quick and can't be skipped. That and I don't really know Texas Hold-Em, so it's pretty much like random chance for me. It has inspired me to try and find a real human group to play with though.

i'll try Gog also: you won't regret playing the witcher.

I have played the portal mod "Portal Pro" and it was very good. Axed on the puzzle side instead of the trick side. Some of the test chambers are really sneaky and when you finally find the solution, you feel stupid. Very smart mod.

Jesus Christ, who wrote the design doc for the helicopter in crysis, because the choppers are fucking retarded. I don't think ive encountered a more annoying and poorly thought out enemy vehicle in my entire gaming history. From the first point the chopper joins the game it went from a fun to tedious and shit.

    It has pin point accuracy.

It is impossible to hide from. Even if you stealth and go somewhere it can't possibly see you it knows where you are.

It detects you if you come within 500ft

It doesn't stop chasing you ever?!

You can't shoot it down with a normal gun.

It takes 5+ grenade launchers (I don't know exactly because hitting it more than 50% of the time with the nade launcher is pretty tough) to destroy it.

Same goes for jeeps and boats too, as soon as they can possibly see you, they have seen you.

I stealthed past the chopper in Crysis, in the night time level. It was all going cloak and sprinting from bush to bush. I found that pretty reliably going prone in a bush hid me from the chopper so I could recharge my suit and move again. It was pretty fun.

Edit: Maybe it's dependent on difficulty level or something, I was playing on Normal.

i remember the chopper as tedious as well. but this was during the day. i mostly used speed and stealth to try and outrun it. fighting is overrated, especially on delta.

Yeah, I did that on my first playthough as well. Cloaking and hide under a bush was so fun!

You can shoot down the chopper tho, (with a rifle) just aim at the two engines on the side, you should be able to make them explode with a clip or two with your scar.

I dunno how u guys were doing that coz every time i tried that (maybe 20 times) I got a chain gun in my face, even through the canopy of the jungle :/. I spent ages trying to shoot the pilot as that is the obvious weak point in any kind of vehicle, especially as bullets seemed to just ping off them.

i was running from cover to cover until i found some bushes that it apparently couldn't see me through. i then waited for a good long while until i could be sure it didn't detect me, then stealthed/sprinted to safety

Strange. I was always able to find a missle launcher any time a chopper was around. In fact it got to the point that when I spotted one on a map, I knew it was a cue to start exploring and there was always a launcher (or a few) available. 2 shots and done with. Seeing through the cloak was pretty annoying, but I'm guessing the logic was supposed to be they're equipped with infrared sensors.

Never had the same issues with Jeeps and boats though. They had a pretty good range to spot you, but jeeps are endless sources of hilarity. Shoot out a tire when it's going full speed and laugh as it comedically flips over. Then shoot the gas tank on the back as the soldiers scramble to escape and cackle madly as it explodes before they can get away. Boats are funny when you shoot the gunner and play crackshot to headshot the driver before it gets away (assuming the AI doesn't panic and drive into a mine).

well the 3rd point ive encountered the chopper there was a rocket launcher, which I used to destroy the SAM and then the bloody chopper turned up :/ so basically im boned and ive gotta reload an earlier save because I didn't magically have this foresight.

    Disappointed to say the least.
