That's the program that i always wanted when i was still doing mod work:

    http://www.frecle.net/index.php?show=treed.about

It's really awesome. You can use big textures for the leafs like typical for games instead of using hundrets of single leafs. So its very easy to make trees that are cheap to render.

The program is free for amateur and even commercial work and already comes with some halfway decent textures if you don't have the skills to make your own.

You will also need this 3dsmax importer:

Great stuff, I just checked out and tested. Very easy to use. I'm recommending this to anyone who's map is lacking trees.

This looks awesome, can't wait to try it!

If I can make decent eucalyptus trees with this I'm going to french kiss the original poster.

That b3d format seems fucked. But you can also export as *.x

I found a program called Ultimate Unwrap3D that allows you to load x files and save them in any 3d format. Importing 3ds and obj into 3dsmax from there worked for me.

Unfortunately Unwrap3D is not freeware. But this should give you a hint. Maybe someone knows a better and free way to convert x into other formats.

    edit:

    I also found this:

    http://%7boption%7d

It's supposed to work with 3dsmax. But it didn't work for me.

    edit2:

Don't know if you have noticed but this program can also be used to render foliage textures, including alpha channel

Have you tried the Directx SDK? .x is a directx format afaik.

I had a quick look and this is looking very quite simple to use. Aside some poly overlap I think that everything can be edit in max. Thanks for sharing.

Dunno know if this is interest someone. Building Generator.

This program is a great timesaver and a total doddle to use. Having an absolute mare of a time getting hte files into max though.

The x format imports directly to softimage, including the animation. The only thing is you would have to re-texture the model with a proper UV map I suppose.
