aye,its pronounced shalg or schalg for you germans

Theres no e at the end, and if you can manage the ending without it sound like a k, then you got it right =)

hello friends, i recently bought this game for me and a friend as it's on sale for 13 euros.
just finished it and it took longer to download than it did to complete. we clocked in at around 3 hours (thank you steam for that feature!). it took even less time than homefront.
i loved the environment design, really nicely done. so much stuff was modeled and it was a joy to see such full and rich environments.
the lighting and cover placement combined into a bit of a mess at times. enemies taking a round in the head, falling behind cover only to pop up after 10 seconds meant you often ran around a corner into an enemy you thought was dead long ago.
labyrinthian corridors and spawn rooms meant getting lost was quite common. running to a door and 2 feet away enemies bursting through and shooting you was also a bit too common, and towards the end of the game it took quite a lot of deaths to learn what the designers actually wanted you to do, rather than having the option of tackling the combat areas the way you wanted.
i enjoyed the level of destruction, it felt well done although not being able to blow up cars and a lack of grenades or explosives mean that you were again limited to using pre-placed gas canisters or firehydrants to flush out enemies, or just run up and spam the grab button to get the annoying mobs.
controls felt a little off, aim assist wasn't really working that well, and the enemies popped up and down like a fairground shooting gallery; i often had my crosshairs on one position waiting for some dude to pop up his head, but then another guy popped up his head and i was forced to try and kill him or be killed, then he would drop back into cover and then the other guy would pop up again. very frustrating combined with enemies mostly dressed in dark colours and often poor indication of where you were taking fire from.
the best part of the game was the naked sequence but only because it was hilariously unintentionally funny.
terrible enemy placement also contributed to alot of annoying deaths and knockdowns. all stemmed from not playing the area the way a designer intended. and placing enemies very far away from you, meant pixel hunting with weapons that weren't accurate to begin with, and enemies that took multiple rounds to die, often playing dead and then getting up again.
overall i enjoyed the art and i would encourage people to play it purely for sightseeing reasons, but it definately wasn't an incredibly enjoyble experience. it seemed like a huge amount of potential that was wasted, much like the first game but not nearly as bad.
at one level i was forced to remove many graphical settings because the game kept crashing for no real reason. although it was nice to remove the full screen effects which added a nice atmosphere but gave me a headache for the most part.
i hope IO are given more time to work on Hitman because it would be a shame to have another Kane and Lynch.

Thanks for the write up, though I do agree with a lot of your points, then I played through it on Extreme and had a fairly good time with it, but it doesn't surprise me that you got through it in 3 hours if you played on anything less than Extreme.
You didn't by any chance try out the multiplayer? Probably aren't that many games up now, but it's the bit I worked on and with the right people (get 3 friends together) it is genuinely awesome fun. I'm not saying KL2 is a brilliant and flawless game, it most definitely is a mess in a lot of areas, but I'm still proud of how the multiplayer turned out, even if it is very niche.

unfortunately we are playing on PC, and when i went to multiplayer it was just me and my friend so i didn't bother. really i should have played when it released, it was a very big game on my "to do" list. i love what you guys do, i even bought two copies of the first K&L for my sins (pc and 360, the 360 to play with my dad although we gave up on the bulldozer fight), but i wish the K&L games were more.. polished. another 6 months would have taken it from a decent game (nearly 70 on metacritic isn't a bad score for a 3 hour game) to a fantastic game. there's just a lot of little things that didn't quite work, the audio mix meant if you left the sound settings on default, the ambient noise sometimes overwhelmed important cutscene dialogue, bad shooting gallery design meant a lot of potentially awesome sequences turned into comedy sections or worse, frustrating nightmares.
i don't want to list all the negatives, because i think it was worth playing, the art was inspiring and i loved the overall story arc, it felt like a proper gritty blockbuster movie mixed with a kung fu style revenge thriller. we played through it in a single sitting, which means it kept our interest for a full 3 hours, when we have often stopped playing some 9/10 games after an hour or two. the story was very more-ish, you wanted to see what was next.
it's a shame nobody seems to be playing the multiplayer but that is a curse for a lot of games, i think you have to be very lucky or very very good to get a consistent piece of the multiplayer market. crysis 2 has pretty much dead servers now, and that was only modern warfare with magic suits, but it's a pity something a little different has suffered, as it only hurts everyone else trying to do something different.
edit: oh and we played it on easy after doing the first level on normal and me realising i wanted to have fun, and normal seemed to be more about staying in cover and getting fucked in the ass from every angle. i can't even imagine what the later levels with the army must be like on harder difficulties, they were a fucking pain on easy, it felt very unfair to have dozens of them pour in through a door and instaly start nailing me
