Most reviews seem to be 7/8/9 out of 10. This is looking good, shame I have to wait to Friday
.
It looks pretty interesting. But I suspect it'll be a very polarazing game amongst gamers. Some will dig it's groove, others just won't see the fun in it I think.
I really love giantbomb preview of the games, rage is also pretty cool, it actually let's you see what the game is all about:
lol reviews
God that EGM review annoys me. Exactly the kind of ass-kissing tripe that made me stop liking video game reviews in the first place. I mean I want to believe Rage is great and all, but it's so wishy-washy and its praise it might as well be written by the game's marketing department.
Joystiq's review is very critical but based on the tone of some of the others I think it's going to sit at the harsher end of the review spectrum — a place it usually shares with Destructoid, EDGE, and Eurogamer. The game seems like it's definitely going to disappoint in some key areas which were played down prior to release (only 8–12 hours long, exceedingly linear, thin on story) but excel in those we'd expect an id shooter to do well in (gameplay, visuals, pace).
I was hoping for a very immersive story considering the game's based on the real albeit slim chance of Apophis hitting us, the government wanting to reclaim control from those who survived afterwards, and there being lots of warring factions wanting the world. Sounds like it very much falls flat in that area sadly, other than briefly explaining the things I just said.
We'll see though, obviously I'm going to buy id's latest shooter. ![]()
As far as I've heard, the game is really problematic on PC, especially on ATI cards.

Woa, who the fuck is that Ben dude, and why do people trust him SO MUCH to the point of canceling their pre-orders based on his thoughts?! I mean have a look at the comments and see the people that are not going to play the game based solo on this article!
I mean, seriously, you're hyped for a game, you like the trailers and the games that company puts out, but a few days before, some dude types some bad thoughts about it and this people blatantly cancel their pre-orders based on his feelings of the game he didn't even fucking finish yet!
It's like, you order a delicious muffin, you are ready to eat it, you look at it it smells delicious and it looks delicious, someone walk by and say: "Jeez dude I tried that muffin before, I hated it!" Will you put this muffin in the trash, or would you trust your instinct that the muffin will be as delicious as any you tried before?
When I'm hyped for something, I trust my gut feeling it will be at least a good game and it will at least correspond to SOME of my expectations. Even if the fucking pope said this game was shit, i would buy it anyway because I trust my gut, and I would check the game for myself. And I'm not saying this cos it's a id game, it's because it's exactly the genre I love and no one can convince me otherwise, especially a game journalist that KNOWS he's gonna get more visits on his website if he talks shit about a hyped game like this! ![]()
PC is a botched release it seems:

QuoteWhy do game journalists keep mistaking iD tech demos for games?

well, it's a 60 bucks muffin and it better be good before ya touch it and can't return it. personally, i'm waiting until the dust settles, patches are released and you know what you get. saw some screenshots earlier with the crappiest texture resolution since half-life 1 and I wanna wait if that's just weird settings/bugs or in the final game.
man, I would sure like a muffin right about now
Recorded at HD AND 60FPS, check out how smooth it is!
Yeah i must say i looks great, but is it me or the radar/map (upper right corner) is too big, too much away from a corner of the screen and due its color's its drawning too much attention ?

Sorry guys, this happened the moment I clicked pre-order because God hates me.

This review says the game is not fun but doesn't actually say why. It's all about the story, the drawn-out intro, and it being linear.
I can carry more than 2 guns, the guns all do different things, and health isn't handled by regen jam. That's a 80% before we even start.
Health does regenerate, but you can bandage to heal during heavy fire fights as well.
Honestly, the Eurogamer and IGN reviews best reflected my experience playing the campaign during focus testing a few months ago. All the fringe reviews on the positive and negative side are ridiculous and wildly off base.
Oh dear
I'm sure they'll fix it up though...
It's not all id's fault tho:
"All - don't use the current Rage performance driver - package includes very old OGL files, that's why you're seeing corruption etc."
"New Rage driver with proper OGL component will be posted later today"
No problems on my nVidia card. ![]()
People frapsing and saying that they see texture popping is so stupid since the textures are loaded from the same hardrive that they are trying to save a bmp to every frame. No wonder its slow.
Its kind of like blaming low fps on the game you're playing while running 3dsmax, photoshop CS3, udk, unity, cryengine 3, 3 instances of visual studio and watching a replay of your favourite starcraft 2 match on youtube on your second monitor.
