I actually like the way RAGE is approaching colour, HP. Areas of the game which are more vibrant and active are far more colourful, more so than many games in fact — I get a distinct Beyond Good and Evil vibe from one of the mutant towns, for example. However areas that're desolate and essentially dead like the city above are pulled right back in colour.

While this may not look so cool in screenshots, I bet it really adds to the atmosphere of the game when you're actually exploring these places. Films have used similar colour grading tricks to enhance mood for decades and it's almost always a good thing IMO.

It's when games use a single colour grade for the entire game that it gets a bit lame, which has happened quite a bit this generation.

New rage footage I've never seen before, and new info on the story of the game.

isn't this game supposed to have awesome, high resolution textures? i thought that was the whole idea of "megatextures"?

The textures are really high res actually, and you can tell everything is stamped uniquely and textured uniquely. Man, it's amazing the amount of work being put on this environments.

Really nice looking. But I thought the NPC animations were pretty sub standard compared to the rest of the game.

I would say the voice overs and writing is much worse.

The idea isn't to have high resolution textures. The idea is to have uniquely textured environments, and to have far less draw counts increasing overall performance (because textures are all on one or more large texture sheets, like 128,000x128,000).
