instead of being angry at blizzard for requiring internet connection, you should be angry at not having an internet connection at wherever you want to play.

right, not taking into account that ubiquitous systems usually require a lot of battery power to maintain a steady internet connection, which may not even be stable everywhere you go. but yeah we should all be angry at internet providers that can't provide proper internet simply because the technology isn't there, whereas a game company that chooses to go with a full on network design in a time where it just isn't possible everywhere should not be debated. please stop the rabid fanboyism.

i'm not saying per se that they're bad decisions, i am sure they are rooted in either complex equations or arguments. but that doesn't mean we shouldn't still look out for decisions that are created because of shortsightedness.

oh right, wireless internet is 100% stable and widely accessible, especially in airplanes and rural areas.

Would you be comfortable with calling your car manufacturer every time you had to drive your car? They could control the access you have to your car, and hey, everyone has a cellphone and cell signal is so common right?

Analogies aside, I think its stupid to need constant internet connection for SP games. I don't mind activating it online, and if the game is online, than that's ok... but SP? Even steam has an offline mode.

How many people in airplanes seriously have enough room, flight time, and hardware/battery power to game?

How many people in rural areas actually do anything that involves the mental acuity necessary to do more than tip cows and drink moonshine for fun?

yes lets do analogies with hardware to software, it always works so great, like for instance:

I bet that if i could ctrl+c & ctrl+v that fiiiiiiiine audi a6 thats parked outside then suddenly audi would insist that you'd have to have a constant internet connection in order to drive their cars.

    i'm with sentura on this.

i moved apartment, had very bad mobile internet, couldn't get proper net so had to make do with what i could get.

i bought splinter cell conviction, a nice single player game to help me pass the time. it required a constant net connection, and not just a small amount, but it ran so manychecks, so often, that my little mobile device couldn't keep up.

i was unable to play a game i paid for because ubisoft are implementors of draconian drm.

if i had stolen their fucking game i wouldn't have had to put up with that shit.

so here's hoping D3 gets cracked to fuck

...and im guessing you are not in any way furious about your lack of decent internet connection (which should be a fucking civil right like electricity and water!), or your lack of judgement when you failed to read the small white text on your game that clearly stated that it needed an internet connection?

Hey I'm not saying its a good thing that you need internet connection to play some games, but i'm sure as hell not gonna whine about it because my computer is connected to the internet 100% of the time. And those times its not, then... no wait, its always connected. I cant even recall the last time i didn't have stable internet.

Let's pretend we want to play the Diablo series offline single player so we can get our panties in a twist.

I live in a rural area without access to highspeed internet unless I pay out the ass for satilite providers. currently my only form of internet is from my 3g cellphone.

I dislike the new bnet system.

No need to pretend, you're not the only type of Diablo fan in existence

I don't see any one here up in arms about the decision, personally I don't see the logic behind it. There's no need for analogies here, either. If I come home at 1am and I want to play D3 alone, there shouldn't be any reason I can't play if my software and hardware is in order. Unfortunately for me, I boot up D3 to realize that my internet is out for what ever reason. I do all of the various troubleshooting I know how to do but to no avail. I call up my ISP and they say it's something on their end and they'll send a guy out some time later that day. It's 12 hours later and I can finally play the game, so cool!

It's an unnecessary inconvenience, however minor some may think it to be. Like I said though, I really don't care if I need a constant connection, it's not going to stop me from buying the game. It's just a stupid decision for something like culling cheaters or piracy, imo.

I think the real crux of this is no one wants to be seen logging onto Bnet in the small hours of the night to do some lonely grinding for those sweet uniques.

wow i don't even get what your point is anymore.

internet is not a civil right, neither is water or electricity - just forget to pay your bills for a few months and watch that sht get turned right off.

from what i can gather there's about 21% of the world's population has internet, so it's by no means widespread, when you consider something like water and electricity. ask some poor fuck living in a shanty town in africa what he thinks is more imporrtant, clean water so his children don't die or maybe the ability to order toilet roll holders from amazon and post a shitty comment on a youtube video about kittens.

rich white people problems springs to mind here.

in sweden, you cannot get internet services from the main providers until you have lived here for 6 months - and sweden is a socialist paradise apparently. so how highly do they value it?

also you missed my point somewhat. i had an internet connection, i had a mobile device that gave me 20kb download and like 1kb upload. but the retards at ubisoft decided simply activation the game wasn't enough, but they had to check i was still there constantly, over and over until it completely overloaded my internet device. whereas steam worked just fine, so i am not against an online activation, but the idea that we cannot have an offline mode is a little shitty. and blizzards reasons for not offering it aren't exactly brilliant, why didn't they just say they want to prevent piracy - or is it because that system doesn't prevent it at all, but sinply punishes legitimate consumers.

forget to pay your bills on electricity rick_d and you'll notice it wont get turned off. you'll get billed up your arse tho, and finally it will be subtracted right from your paycheck, but it will never get turned off. Its against the law up here in the cold harsh north, because without electricity you die.

Anyways, i can totally see your frustration, all im arguing here is basically; "cmon, its not that fucking bad. Your computer is most likely connected to internet 99% of the time anyways". And if you don't have internet, move to someplace that do. If you're poor and cant afford internet, why are you owning a brand new computer that can run diablo 3 in the first place? And why are you buying games?

Skjalg, step back a bit and see how stupid you're being. The internet CAN be unreliable, and why should we not be able to play a game just because our internet has gone down? It makes no sense whatsoever.

It's a bit unfeasible to move to somewhere new just because the internet isn't working, just to play Diablo haha.
