Bluestrike
Maybe I put too much on it like the wireframes of the battleship map. Spine can probebly use half of this as his portfolio too I wanted to apply at Valve with it (doesn't hurt to aim high does it?) Instead I might accept a job in Seoul unless I totally chicken out ;-) http://www.bluestrike.be/portfolio update 17 aug, new version: http://www.bluestrike.be/portfolio/p_index.html
hessi
good luck with your portfolio. i think you will definitly get in somewhere. the only question would be: where? Since i kind of became "anti-big-developer" (because of ignoring community needs etc.) i hope you find a nice company that keeps track with its community. in my eyes this excludes valve. Steppenwolf
Grin is looking for talented singleplayer level designer for the new studio in Gothenburg atm. I know that you have all the necessary skills. I would recommend you if interested in the job. Also i think you would like the project (can't say more about it tho due to NDA). http://www.grin.se/jobs.aspx
kleinluka
Your portfolio is alright but you SERIOUSLY need to change your resume. It's awful. 1) there are spelling errors all over the place, it looks like you were drunk when you typed it. 2) the formatting is off in some areas and not very aesthetic in general 3) don't put NEGATIVE things about you on your resume. I quote "Educated and working as a carpenter in the construction industry gave me great strucctural understanding on how things are made as well as a good map (blueprints) reader. Also a downside as I was learnt to make things perfect while in games things have to look imperfect to feel real." Remove this. You can leave the other part but if you leave the stuff with 'its a downside' this means that you cannot adapt to the needs of a real time game development studio and would be reason enough by itself not to hire you. I would also leave out the fact that you were a "carpenter for your dad"... just put the job title, company name, duration of employment and a short job description. Nothing else. Next, "Characteristics: Honest, loyal and maybe a bit insecure." Again, leave it out. The resume is about selling yourself, its purpose is to support your portfolio and make you more appealing to a company and give them reason to hire you. It's nice that you are trying to be honest but really...the stuff you wrote isn't necessary. And you're really not helping yourself by putting it on your resume. If you're applying to companies in North America leave out all the personal stuff like hobbies, date of birth, marital status and so on... Make it about your profession, your skills, your experience, your education, your achievements, your objectives. Putting your whole family history on a resume is not that common in the US/Canada and can be frowned upon. I know that in Germany you're supposed to put the occupation of your parents.... stuff like that is unthinkable if you are applying in the US or Canada. So fix those issues, and get somebody from an english speaking country to cross-read your resume and website for spelling errors and then you stand a chance. m8nkey
You have a solid body of work Bluestrike and a proven ability to work collaboratively in the mod community. I have no doubt you'll find work in your chosen field. All Kleinluka's suggestions were spot on. Get rid of all the subjective/negative comments, providing only the facts and be more confident in your own ability.
skdr
I don't like the look (or better said: lack of the looks) in your site. Times New Roman, white background and blue links? Also those thumbnails on the main page could be links to corresponding asset. You have way too many (and way too big) screen shots from your maps. If you have a map, you don't have to show it from all directions. Might be better to show just those cool moneyshots, right? Anyway, I'd improve it. Stylize it with different fonts, graphics and get rid of some unnecessary screenshots.

Minos
Nice stuff, lots of solid work, hope you get that job bro! I agree with the above guys that the site lacks a proper design, maybe you should read about CSS-only sites, they tend to look pretty clean and straightforward, which is exactly what you need for your portfolio. Also, watch out for typos, they are everywhere ps: I modeled that minecart afaik lmao
Bluestrike
Wel sort off, I remodeled it because that was easyer to make the lods & collision and not waste spine's work skinning it, there are some differences but yeah I used yours as a reference Actaully I might have used those connection thingy's from yours (with lack of a better word) so I should remove it
Zacker
The design of your portfolio seems very non-existant, it could really need some structure. You still have some things in your resume which I highly doubt anyone would care about if they were to hire you as a level designer. Remove things such as the fact that you can assemble a computer and have a drivers licens. Having worked with you on Sands of War, I know that you deliver solid levels, so I hope that you will be able to find a job.
-HP-
The content of the portfolio is definitely good, but I think the web page could use a slightly designer touch, it looks too.. dull? I know you'r main concern is showcasing your work, not your webdesign skills, but a minimally good looking website is also good. Good luck! Thrik
IMO if you haven't got good web design skills yourself, you're better off using a pre-built application with a nice theme to showcase your work. There're plenty of PHP/MySQL gallery apps out there, and even blogging software like WordPress can produce a gallery easily enough. Slap in one of the billion WordPress themes out there and you'll have something pretty nice. The minimal touch with a dark theme works well I reckon. Tends to draw attention to the work much better than a white background.
hessi
i just noticed you used the term "skinned" for "textured". skinning is attaching and weighting a mesh to a skeleton while texturing is... yeah drawing the textures and applying them to a uv set. using the terms in the correct way doesn't let you look like a fool
Bluestrike
Thanks for pointing that out Hessi, I can probebly still learn alot for the right lingo, I always asumed skinning was texturing the unwrapped model and nobody corrected me before (and in source different textures on a model are marked as different skins)
