kleinluka
Man it's been forever since I posted some work here. I started working on this object about 3-4 years ago when I was still working on Nuclear Dawn (lol). When I got the job at Ubi I never touched it again. But recently I decided to finish it up finally so I could add it to my portfolio. So here it is The model was done by Jonathan Smars, I did all the texturing. I added some more geometry to the really damaged parts because it was a bit toooo low poly. Right now it's at about 4000 polys, the texture size is 2048x2048 since it's a pretty huge object. The scene renders were done in UnrealEngine3, using some of Epic's stock assets to decorate it (the grassy bits and the water). Here are some screenshots Hope you like! RA7
SWEET!!
aevirex
Looks nice but if you want it to be a portfolio pic, spend a little time on the grass. It looks just bad. There is iirc some decoration volume for non-terrain objects (Hourences has that covered in his tutorials).
Ginger Lord
No crits on the texture work, a few on the model but thats not your problem.
Nurb
The plane looks awesome, but the ground texture is really lowres compared. Perhaps add rocks and larger bushes aswell. And you should really fade to some beach/rock material on the terrain by the waterline, cause grass almost never goes all the way down to the water like that, unless there's been a flood (I think you have done this in some parts, but it's very vague). kleinluka
I know about the ground. And I don't think it's a big deal really. The main idea is to draw focus to the plane, which is the only thing I am presenting here. The other stuff in the scene is mere decoration and serves more as background than anything else. Maybe I'll sit down and make some better islands some other time. But I think for now it's doing the job
Hourences
If you want focus on the plane, then just present the plane and nothing but the plane. I agree that the background could use more work and degrades the overall quality right now. The background is really basic. The plane itself is cool. Bluestrike
Isn't that a Royal Air Force sign on the wing? While the side sais US Air Force

Algor
Beautiful work If the background is so temp that it's distracting, why not just make it a solid color for an in-game render?
Ginger Lord
Like I said earlier, not your problem but it would look much more convincing if the model was beaten up more and the properllors were bent back. The nose cone looks odd, not sure I've seen one like it but could be a USAF modification which the RAF doesnt use. Not sure on the positioning of the flaps, if it was coming in for a crash landing I think they'd be pointing up, not sure though. Edit, the flaps are in the right position, nm. dissonance
Not sure on the positioning of the flaps, if it was coming in for a crash landing I think they'd be pointing up, not sure though. That's assuming the hydraulic lines stayed in pristine condition. Also, I realize it's not part of the airframe model itself, but the terrain around the aircraft would be a lot more pockmarked and beat up. Great model, though! Gonna be using this in anything? kleinluka
I realize that there are a lot of things that could have been done differently, especially on the model and the surrounding environment... I will probably make a better scene for it at some point. I just wanted to show it off for the texturing work I did on it. As for the propellers, some of them are bent backwards a little bit, some of the engines are missing a couple fins.... it's kind of subtle though (the way i like it ) I don't think this is going to be used for anything...although if any of you would need this for a mod or something I would be glad to share it with you after talking with the guy who modeled it (dont think he's gonna have a problem with it). It was supposed to be used in Nuclear Dawn but that project seems to be dead. If anybody is interested in using this in their level or mod send me a PM and I will see what I can do. Cheers for the comments
