Psy Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Wiki states that it is running on a heavily modified UT2 engine. The engine, which now contains parts of an early version of Unreal Engine 2.0 (the team branched off from the engine in 2001) supports such features as pixel shading, normal mapping and high dynamic range based lighting.[16][17] Broussard has stated several times that the only parts of the Unreal engine that are still part of their code base are UnrealScript, the networking code, and the UnrealEd. Everything else (except Meqon, the physics engine) has been written from scratch by 3D Realms. The principal technical reason given by Broussard for the extensive delays was the unstable tech base. Once it was stabilized, 3D Realms expanded their team considerably, from 22 to 31 members. Reply With Quote Quote
-HP- Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 I dont really care if the graphics are good or not, thats not what duke is about. That's what most games are about nowadays, if you're game doesn't have nice graphics, you're a goner. Quote
Pongles Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 it was ok, but I had more enjoyment watching the 2001 trailer again than watching the 2007 one. ... they should have just made a post convincing us to watch the 2001 one again. Quote
Thrik Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Yeah, that old trailer was incredible in its day. A lot of the stuff shown hadn't even really been seen in such a cool way, while now loads of other games have either copied what they saw there or done their own innovations. That's why I'm so worried about the gameplay. It's almost like what nearly happened to TF2 (if Valve had continued working on the original plan it'd have essentially been a small-scale Battlefield 2, which would have failed to stand out and sank). Cybbe Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 I can't help but snicker at the fact, that after all, this teaser did cause enough commotion to now be at it's sixth page in our forum Quote
Algor Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 I find it hilarious that the same game everyone would be laughing at prior to this announcement with a comment like, "lol this game's never coming out" suddenly turns around and are so defensive about it. Even more so that many of you seem to be going entirely off faith in the gameplay, which was not even shown. Guess there's hope for this game after all, even if it is sick and twisted. Don't get me wrong, the trailer has me excited just because Duke has come into light again, but my pants aren't exactly tightening... Quote
Sentura Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 i'm not really excited for the title other than seeing the duke in action once again; i am more interested in the actual effect (if any) on games by companies that said that dnf would come out before a came out. it's more the fact that you cannot use the term anymore than anything else. like if hell froze over... which actually happened: http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/weatherI ... ndex=55275 Quote
MrH2o Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 Play Team Fortress 2 - Check See a new trailer of Duke Nukem Forever - Check Getting the phantom console - ..... Anyway, All i wish is pretty graphics (maybe not as pretty as Crysis), good gameplay and alot of interactivity (strippers anyone?) Well, actually it looks like they've gotten the Phantom Lapboard out, thats close enough http://kotaku.com/335993/phantom-lapboa ... y-released Ha ha, ya i saw. I was like "Fuck there goes my joke". I can say that 3Drealms haven't handle this really well. Sure they don't owe us anything but if you want to keep your fans (and expecting them to pay for the game when its eventually out) you should act like salesmen and keep the interest up, maybe a blog or some updates every now and then not just a "When it's done". I agree that its meaningless to show something that won't even make it in the final version but at least some sign of life. Quote
Zeta Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 2001 trailer > this. 10 years and you have a mirrored skin on the main character model? I have a feeling this game is going to feel exactly like prey. Quote

I have a feeling this game is going to feel exactly like prey. Forget about the mirrored skin. I'm willing to bet every model in the game is mirrored. But *shrugs* I'll wait and see. This might yet turn out fun. Quote
Thrik Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 To be honest, a mirrored skin on Duke is no big deal. Don't forget that Duke is an FPS, and many FPS games including the champion superb game Half-Life 2 don't even have a main player model. Duke really does need to keep working out, though. He looks nowhere near as bulky as he used to. Quote

But I agree he needs to work out. Maybe that's why they've been waiting so long? Duke let himself go and now he has to catch up. That video was footage from his new training programme ;D Quote
Defrag Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 The game would be a lot better if they were to base it on antique collecting and call up the real duke. Quote
D3ads Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 The 2001 trailer is still the best trailer ever made for a game imho, I've not seen anything since that left me with a dropped jaw like when I first saw that. I saw the 1998 trailer the other day, that was loltastic, not quite as bad as the original 1997 Half-Life trailer though I'll be looking forward to DNF anyway, after 10 years it can only be the best damn thing ever made right..?
