The Duke is still alive, teaser incoming

Wish people would stop mentioning Unreal Engine 3 or Doom 3 Engine since it uses niether... One major good point I liked from the teaser is it looks as if it may run better PCs. My only problem is Duke's hair needs more work, but it seems the staff are constantly tweaking the Duke model. Funny how we're getting Graphics > Gameplay type posts though here though... =/

How exactly are we supposed to gauge gameplay from a teaser that shows nothing but graphics? I think it goes without saying graphics are what pretty much everyone is going to be discussing.

What I said before still stands true. Duke Nukem 3D was a fine game, but don't be naive and think that means this one will also be as innovative and fun as its predecessor. As I said, we've had dozens upon dozens of alien ass kicking games since then that've innovated in many ways. It's going to be very hard for Duke to stand out.

I am sceptical, but hopeful. To actually live up to Duke Nukem 3D is a huge challenge, but it's also now got to live up to 10 years of hype and all the other superb alien ass kicking games that've come out (and were probably inspired by Duke 3D).

according to Quakis it uses an extremely altered version of the Unreal Engine.

i think what Thrik said in his last post was pretty valid. hoewever, like probably most of the oldskool fanbase, i dont give a flying rat about next gen graphix and dx10 fx. i just want to play duke nukem and kick some ass in duke style. i dont think its too hard to create a game that, gameplay wise, honors duke3d. im not expecting fireworks, just a cool game. the rest of the joy lies by myself and the remiscant feeling i get when shrinking lapd pigs and beating flying reptiles.

and as far as the ''cool game'' part, looking at the first 2 trailers, i see alot of fun gameplay and original settings and characters so i might not be as sceptical as the lot of you.

Duke Nukem Forever history breakdown, really cool read!

May 29, 2003: Take-Two CEO Jeffrey Lupin informs reporters that Duke Nukem Forever will not be out by the end of 2003. Broussard fires back shortly after, reminding readers that DNF remains self-funded, while also issuing a famously stiff rebuttal to its publisher: "Take Two needs to STFU imo." The spate makes national news, including a story on CNN.

Wish people would stop mentioning Unreal Engine 3 or Doom 3 Engine since it uses niether...

Yet it uses modified (obviously) U3 tech?

From Wikipedia:

"Broussard has stated several times that the only parts of the Unreal engine that are still part of their code base are UnrealScript, the networking code, and the UnrealEd. Everything else (except Meqon, the physics engine) has been written from scratch by 3D Realms."

Interview with Scott Miller on YouGames: (here)

DNF is also famous for its use of engines but the truth on the matter is:

Scott: We started with the Quake engine, but within six or so months we switched to the Unreal engine. However, I’m reminded of the story about the man who claimed to own the axe that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree. The man said, “Yeah, it’s the same axe alright, but the head and handle have both been replaced a few times over the last 200 years of use.” The same applies with the Unreal engine we licensed so long ago.

Duke Nukem Forever does NOT use the Doom 3 Engine: (Source)

Some more quotes from George Broussard from duke4.net

Will you switch to Unreal 3 engine for DNF?

No. Its a fantastic looking engine, but we want to finish on what we have.

Have you had trouble regarding Dynamic Lights with Unreal 2's renderer?

Our rendering is 100% different than Unreal 2. We wrote our own.

Less than six years of silence, not ten.

Team Fortress 2 was announced around the same time, and was released a few months ago. I haven't seen half as many complaints about it as there are here.

Duke looked a bit different, but everything in the trailer looked very good to me.

... Of course, I'm by no means surprised by the negative feedback around here........

wootah

I dont really care if the graphics are good or not, thats not what duke is about. I want lots of ridiculous levels with loads of stupid gimmicks everywhere and lots of aliens to blast and babes to save!!!!!!!!!
