Gorion Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 really wait at least 3 months more.. Quote
JeanPaul Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 AMD x2 3.2ghz dual core 4 gb RAM Dual 8800gt 512mb Dual 250 gb 7200 rpm HD PC power and cooling 750 watt power supply Crysis at all very high at 1680 x 1050 at 20-30 fps $1300 Get GT's you will NOT regret it, especially considering that they are 90% the power of a GTX for half the price Quote
Thrik Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 The thing is Gorion you can quite literally wait forever in the hardware game, as you yourself are aware I'm sure. There's always something just around the corner, and I don't think D3adlode is looking for top-end equipment anyway seeing as he's looking into GeForce 6 cards on eBay (wtf). In my opinion, if new hardware is more than a quarter of a year away you should just buy. Otherwise you'll end up frustrated because you can't play any new games, and get yourself into an endless waiting game where your only gaming-related entertainment is reading about what the next upcoming hardware is. It's like the 8800 GTX. People told me to wait for the Ultra, then people buying the Ultra were told to wait for the Autumn cards that just came out, now those guys are being told to wait for the GeForce 9s, and it will go on and on. Tere's always something less than half a year ago ready to render what you just bought obsolete. Quote

MJ Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 PHL has a nice lil hardware guide http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View. ... tail&id=41 Quote
D3ads Posted December 13, 2007 Author Report Posted December 13, 2007 I don't think D3adlode is looking for top-end equipment anyway seeing as he's looking into GeForce 6 cards on eBay (wtf). Well it's a huge step up from my Ti, I just want something to tie me over for a bit IF I can get it cheap, I'm certainly not going to buy anything like that new, it's pointless. I have a guy I know from my hardware course who builds computers for a cut price so I'll approach him in the new year. Don't worry Thrik, I'm sorting out my 'specs' life... Thanks I'm here all week, try the fish. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 D3 buy your new computer now but dont buy top of the line equipment. It's not worth the money, I bought a 7800 GTX 2 years ago and I played maybe 2 or 3 games on it that really required a card like that to play them on high. It wasn't worth it imo, I could have gotten thesame experience from them playing at medium res or so. Just get a nice budgetversion of the 8800 if that already exists, like my laptop has a 7600 in it and runs most games pretty well. And the games that do require a top of the line card to run well, crysis for example, really arnt worth that kind of money for it. Quote
-HP- Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 I bought a 8800GT for 249€!! A card capable of running Crysis @ very high, dx10, and SM4.0... There's no excuse for us to don't have a good graphic card nowadays Quote
Pericolos0 Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 it absolutely ridiculous to buy a 250€ card just for the one game that requires it. Especially if the game is imo pretty average. Quote

Especially if the game is imo pretty average.and if you wait 1 month, it's half the price. I got a almost top notch rig, 1 and a half year ago. Still runs fine. And if I want to upgrade, 1gb ram (of the same) costs like 15£, and since my motherboard is still good, I can add a new processor for maybe 100£ or so, which would make my comp a lot better. Next upgrade I'll make, will be a drawable monitor, like the guy at Grin got, it looks so sweet, instead of a small wacom Quote

I want one too . I think the smallest one goes at 999 euro now, and its pretty small. Quote

-HP- Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 what other games require a card like that to run on high? Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, World in Conflict, Jericho. There a couple of really great games yet to be released that will probably run really fine on 8800gt... Quote
