Tranquil Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Hi, I'm totally new here and nearly new to anything mapping related. Is anyone interested in doing a colab? I have worked alittle with Hammer before, know abit about Unrealeditor. My main interest is in creating textures and prop objects. My idea is to find a coworker to put together a very small level, like a rundown apartment a la Silent Hill The Room. It would be only ment for graphical demonstration and atmosphere. I'd prefer Halflife or UnrealRuntime. To show that I'm no n00b, some work samples, textures, lowpoly, and highpoly stuff : (some textures I did for a friend, and some lowpoly objects) http://img14.exs.cx/img14/1212/misctex.jpg http://img33.exs.cx/img33/2742/misctex2.jpg http://img14.exs.cx/img14/4444/Various_lowpoly.jpg (currently WIP)
FrieChamp Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 An experienced and talented artist who offers his texturing and modeling skills for a collaborative map project? Somebody pinch me, guys this sounds like a very unique opportunity to put together a really kick-ass map! I'm sure you will find somebody, welcome to MapCore!
Fullauto Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Wow, cool beans. I'd be severely tempted to partake in this, however, in all honesty I can say I'm not up to the standard you're looking for. By the way, I think you ought to plump for something unreal based - HL won't do the models justice.
Tequila Posted September 24, 2004 Report Posted September 24, 2004 Very lovely textures, and the idea of a Silent Hill-esque experience fills me with joy, but I can't commit to such a project at the mo.
Tranquil Posted September 24, 2004 Author Report Posted September 24, 2004 Thanks I hope I find somebody soon. I'm not really looking for an super mapper, someone with intermediate expierence is absolutely fine Yeah, Unreal would probably be the right choice, but I've got less experience with UnrealEd than with Hammer  Anyway, if someone is using UnrealEd or Hammer, and has some time work on that with me, contact me
KingNic Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 If you're good with created low poly objects, try asking around the Unreal Community. You could create static meshes for the mappers to use, and it will require no experience of UnrealED.
KungFuSquirrel Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 If you're good with created low poly objects, try asking around the Unreal Community. You could create static meshes for the mappers to use, and it will require no experience of UnrealED. ...and if you're good with high poly objects as well (which it seems you just might be), ask around the D3 community and you can render out some normal maps for both textures and low-poly map models.
Tranquil Posted September 25, 2004 Author Report Posted September 25, 2004 Yep, I have experience in creating lowpoly from highpoly with normalmaps. But before joining some modgroup I'd like to work on something small first to aquiere some better texturing skills. So, still no one who'd dedicate like 2 weeks for a small 4 room apartment ?
FrieChamp Posted September 25, 2004 Report Posted September 25, 2004 ...or ask around at crymod.com to make a nice FarCry map! /me shakes fist at KFS
insta Posted September 26, 2004 Report Posted September 26, 2004 Sounds like a fun thing to do, sadly I have waaaay too much on my hands at the moment. Good luck though!
mawibse Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 A bit late but... If you'd go for the old HL1 engine I'd like to collaborate with you, I’ve done a couple of collaborations before regarding HL1 maps so I’ve got some experience. If all you want to do is make an atmospheric map I’d prefer something not so “tight spaced” as an apartment. (does not work well in HL) How about an old abandoned slaughter house/factory or similar if it’s the “horror” atmosphere you want?
Insane Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 That looks interesting. Right about now, creating an atmospheric map with nifty textures and such would be a good thing for me. If you want to do it on HL, you can drop me a line if you like, and I'd be happy to help you out.
