Silent Hill Origins

This is out now apparently, didn't realise! This looks absolutely stunning for a psp game, kinda like Silent Hill 1 with some graphical effects from Silent Hill 2. I would love to play it but I don't have a PSP nor do I want one and I doubt it'll see the light of day on the PC. Anyone here with a PSP checked it out? :)

Not yet, but I'm considering it. First PSP game I've considered buying in ages actually, aside from FF:Tactics which I just bought coz it was cheap. I never use the thing, but I'm quite tempted to for a Silent Hill fix. Plus I'm going on holiday in January, so I'll definately find some time for the thing when sitting around in airports or buses :)

It's awesome, I just bought a PSP about 3 weeks ago and this game was the only one I was really looking forward to play, and it turned out to be amazing.

It got a really nice introduction, and I'm fond of the combat system (which I believe has things in common with SH4, but I never played it so I can't say) which allows you to pick up stuff like portable TVs to throw them at your enemies. It looks amazingly good for the PSP, everything is well detailed, greatly lit, textures are pretty high-detail for this console... definitely impressive.

It's a bit short (finished it in 5h30), but most enjoyable if you don't mind a few backtracking sessions, the repetitiveness of checking every door around, and the standard locked-door/key puzzles. I've yet to find a better game on the PSP.

I have this game sitting at home right now. I'm waiting til I have the perfect time to play it, since the Silent Hill series is like an event for me. I have to admit though it seems to be one of those games where people love it or hate it. I'm of the former opinion...People who hate it say the combat is terrible. But its more about atmosphere and mood and if thats not enough for you in a game, then its not for you. Case in point, compare the IGN and Gamespot reviews.

IGN: 8

Gamespot: 6.5

Heh, some people need to realise that the Silent Hill games aren't about killing monsters, they're about deep storylines, complex characters, puzzle solving and creating a genuine unsettling feeling through psychological terror. The monsters are just 'there as something to block the way, but you can often just run from them, it's not like a shooter when you have to kill them to clear the way. The creatures also serve as manifestations of a lead character's feelings and desires like sexual frustration, guilt, sympahy and others. The town of Silent Hill is a normal place to some, it's only those whose minds are corrupted by Alessa's curse because of some kind of secret they hold that can see all the things that 'aren't quite right..'

Most of you already know this, but still..

I gotta say it's a bit lame how a prequel to a very popular game is PSP only, cutting out a lot of the potential marketbase, it's such an obvious ploy to get the fans to shell out for the console just to play the game.. :/

[edit]Oh and this is fucking retarded:

What's the point in getting someone who doesn't like the series and knows next to fuck-all about the games anyway to review one? *head desk*

That page spits out 20 MySQL errors, but it’s probably for the best. Online review sites are hardly the most reliable of sources (I’ve never read a single review on IGN after they gave God Hand 3/10). I flicked down the reviews at metacritic and a lot of people are ragging on the game, and series, for having cumbersome combat – despite that being intended in all survival horror games so you don’t go around blasting the shit out of everything with poise.

I’ve got a PSP and it does look really good (I had no idea it was a PSP game when I originally saw it), but I have yet to buy it. I emulated Silent Hill 1 on it before and it was just so hard to get into it while travelling, which is kind of the point. I imagine I’ll pick it up at some point, though.
