KungFuSquirrel
The point I’m making is that it’s easier, or at least quicker to create something which looks and plays good on modern tech than it is on older alternatives. [...] The thing is that 5 months in most cases would encourage far more focus, technical understanding and creativity than the required 5 minutes on a better engine. I fully understand and respect the challenge involved in working with older tech (having been involved in a project for quite a while as newer stuff was coming out), but... uh... BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. *ahem* I'm ok.
dissonance
I see the 10+ year old quake engine's come a long way.
D3ads
I'm in the final credits! Made them some new sprites since they were using default HL ones for explosions, muzzleflashes and the like, BuZZer is impressed with them so they are being used, yay

Anyways, I'm not really impressed with paranoia anymore. Maybe if they had released it 5 years ago ?

BioPulse
hey, loks pretty interesting ,but i must disagree that working on a a newer tech engine is easier in anyway. surely recreating gears of war on the duke 3 engine is smewhat of an impossible feat ,but people need to keep in mind that when you work i na hl1 engine ,people expect hl1 results, when you work o na newer engine like u3, eople expect way more interesting and good looking levels. anyways.. going to check it out when it's released. D3ads
Yeah I think the writer's views are pretty unrealistically biased, just because an engine's new doesn't mean that it's easier to create things over older engines and the level of detail expected in games is high nowadays. Paranoia will have about 50 maps btw, this is going to be one of the longer mods about...
Thrik
Eh, pity they didn't do it for Source. I haven't had HL1 installed in about three years since HL2 came out. It also looks really dated, so I'm not going to go out my way to give it a go. I of course support the modders for having the dedication to see their project through. D3ads
Isn't HL like £5 now on Steam with all the extras? The thing is they started it in early 2004 before HL 2 came out and the modders weren't even that experienced with the engine, with the exception of BuZZer who works in the industry I think, so a lot of it came from learning as they went along, in that respect what they've managed to produce is very impressive. Sure it would look better on Source but then so would any mod, if they'd ported the content to that engine then they would probably have killed it off, I mean look what happened to Nightwatch... They're supposed to be implementing higher detail normal/specular and soft shadows before release, we'll see if they actually manage it, if not they could always add it in a patch later on if so. Thrik
It's obviously still in my Steam, I just mean I can't be bothered as it's not already on my hard drive like HL2 is, and because of the dated looks I don't really feel enthused to play this instead of just playing through a newer game on my list such as BioShock. I'm guessing this will be the case for a lot of people (including people who've responded in this thread), which makes it very tragic when these old mods come out so long after the host game's hit its prime. A lot of people like me just aren't going to be too excited about something built on old technology when exciting new titles are there; it's not like there's a shortage of new quality games. If this'd come out in 2002/2003 I'd probably have loved it.
