Mazy Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 HAH! Just got the "Rescue Roycewicz" achievement, awesome Quote
Mazy Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 OMG the AC-130 level is amazing! Love how the radio chatter has that lifeless edge to em, exactly like them movies on the internets. Also look extremely authentic, excellent postfilter stuff going on Also loved the Chernobyl level, got pretty adrenaline pumping at times Still not done though, been playing the entire evening too, expected to finish it tonight but its actually holding up quite nicely. Really good game, I salute you IW guys! (And I haven't even started playing the MP yet!) Quote
Grinwhrl Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Its longer than most wankers say it is. Im playing on hardcore(hardened) and am 3 hours in already. Where am I again, oh the second level of the marine start, yeah no way its only 5 - 6 hours. But only diped into that the second night I got it. Still playing mp only. Mazing!!!! Quote
Buddy Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Can anyone post some Chernobyl level screenshots? Thanks. Quote
Algor Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 This game is slowly moving from 9/10 category to the "fuck this game" category. In the Chernobyl mission I had a checkpoint save occur right when a grenade was 1ft in front of me, with about one second left of it's fuse to go. Top that off with when the rare chance I escaped immediate death, the combat was incredibly difficult, mostly because of grenades spawning in everywhere, and the fact that no where is safe anymore thanks to bullet surface penetration. Consistency and player expectancy is thrown out the window. Some missions allow you to climb onto/over cars, where other times the exact same cars are used as roadblocks where you can't get on top. Often these expectancies result in frustration where a particular object would be introduced one way in mission x, and when I see the same object again in another mission, suddenly it's now being used for something completely different. Now I end up dead, and very annoyed. The dog fending seems inconsistent also. I would repeatedly get killed by them, so I tried to just spam RS to get them off, but it seems when mashing the button, the prompt never appears, even though it's always going to be RS. When the prompt does properly appear, the window to press RS is so short (shorter than the RE4 cutscene interactions it seems) that also ends up in death. Having just repelled into the silo, I can say this game suffers greatly from gameplay identity crisis. While it does have great variety (at times), there's never a clear distinction of how the core game should play. The game gets away with the certain scenarios where it will say something like "oh, for this mission you are a dog, and you have to chase cats" and I don't really give a shit, because it's a one-off deal, and usually they are pretty fun. As for the majority of the game where you are on foot and it's the standard on a rails CoD that we all know, there's no combat gameplay mechanic at work. You can't camp out in a room and snipe everyone because grenades will spawn all over and destroy you or guys will spawn and rush in from who knows where. You can't rush ahead and try to skip the combat just because there's always five hundred enemies firing at you. When playing tactically and playing arcade style both fail, I found myself often left in situations where I just felt like my only choice was to exploit the game by bolting through rare open combat lanes to get through a mission. Where most games have clearly defined gameplay styles that are introduced at the start and continue along that thread- while slowly ramping up, I seem to be going willy-nilly through CoD4, just doing whatever works for the particular scene. Maybe I just played too much at one sitting, although it was probably only ~2 hours. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Game is much too short. In the last level i expected to be at around 50% of the game but then it was over already. Bit disappointing. Also the last few missions didn't match the quality of the first few missions in the game. They felt a bit rushed and boring compared to the rest of the game. Still it was a pretty good and entertaining "interactive action movie". Nice story telling and immersion. The black and white mission was one of the best sp experiences that i had in a long time. Would like to see a lot more of this stuff in the next cod. Quote
Mazy Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Completed it, really liked the ending. I like games that do something else than just pitting you against a guy with rocket launchers in his fingers and trillion hit points. Another awesome cinematic moment. In fact this game has so many awesome cinematic set pieces that they almost compete with each other of which ones to remember more than the other. By the way, I do kinda agree with you Algor. It does seem like the game doesn't have a very clear line of "this is how the game is", but I kinda like that, getting loads of variation in there. Also just had a few matches of MP, I could swear one of the players on my team was 5 years old, was horrible. The kid, not the game Quote
Buddy Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Can anyone post some Chernobyl level screenshots? Thanks. Quote
Evert Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I hate the loading in multiplayer. Not that it's long, but because the game is so fucking sweet in MP that I hate waiting a second to get into the action. Quote
Quickie Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 i have cod4 lying next to me right now, going to wait with playing it until i get my new computer. but from what ive seen from videos and screenshots it seems pretty awesome Quote
CompoSITe Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Here you go Buddy. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=3 Vid shows part of the Chernobyl level. I couldn't find screens for you. Thanks for the kind words. I would agree that some parts of the game are a lot harder then others. We have certain Designers that love to make things hard. I would say the TV station fight and the end of the sniper level are the top two hardest. I mostly worked on MP so I take no blame for that, lol. Quote
Psy Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 Does CoD4 come with a level editor? Quote
Psyshokiller Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Just finished it in approx. 7 hours. I really have to say that this was by far one of the best singleplayer experiences I had. There's always something going on, loads of variation, lots of immerson and really outstanding animation. Played on hardened and it was quite challenging, I never died that often in a singleplayer game. So yeah, where's the editor?! Quote
Warby Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 quality stuff But you must "MUST" TELL ME NOW those direct-light-shadows they look from the filtering as if they are these dynamic shadow maps that are so popular now a days but they are just WAY too highness for that to be true are they precalculated ?
