dux Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 RD wins this thread. BTW does anyone know what specs Crytek used to demo the game? Quote
Thrik Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I call them mentioning at some point the E3 stuff (or footage from some event) was on an 8800 GTX with 2GB of RAM, and presumably a dual-core processor of some type. It seems that the most burden definitely falls on the GPU though, which is why using higher resolutions can literally halve your performance: each of those extra pixels takes its toll on the GPU performance, while with processor/RAM stuff the resolution makes little difference. I'm guessing they took the E3 footage in a relatively low resolution because there's no way they got 'Very High' running smooth enough to demo on 1920x1200, or even 1680x1050. Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Crysis is officially gold now http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49674 BRING ON THE RELEASE PAR-TAY!!! Quote
FrieChamp Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Btw. another nice video (not as funny, but nice): "Tornadoes" Quote
Thrik Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 I think I have to mention that the sound in Crysis is really amazing. I mean not only is the music great and the sound effects exciting, but the way the music changes depending on the context is superbly done. I was having another go earlier and it almost felt like the music had been scored just for what I was doing, it so perfectly matched my actions. I almost felt like I was in a film as the music slowly built in tension as I sneaked up to some guys, increased in intensity as I took them out, and then finally exploded into a climax once their reinforcements arrived, forcing me to dive into a jeep and get the fuck out of there. The only other game I can remember in recent history doing context-sensitive music as well as Crysis is Metal Gear Solid 3. Weirdly, the majority of that game also took place in the forest/jungle and had a similar musical style. A fantastic job has been done with the sound, and I suspect it won't be acknowledged anywhere near as much as the graphics. Quote
Algor Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Jesus, that tornado video was incredible. Damn you Frie and your amazing technology and mountains of content Congrats on going gold too! Now if my iPod didn't die with the Crysis demo installer on it, I would be playing... c'mon torrent! Edit1: It's been two something hours and I've cleared enough space to install the demo and updated my graphics drivers. I hate PC gaming. Edit2: Finally got to play, though I only made it to the other side of the sunny beach. Amazing visuals as expected, I'm running all settings on very high @ 1280x720. No idea what my framerate is but it seems 20-30ish. I figure I'd be more paranoid about what my framerate is at any given second than I would care about the game if I had it showing. I'm still fumbling a bit with the controls, hitting C when I'm wanting to crouch, even though CTRL is always my crouch... and hitting RMB to change weapon mode- that one I think I will have to change. Character faces are easily the best out there right now. Weapon models are nice and the depth of field when switching modes is pretty great. I'm also still adjusting to learning how to use the suit effectively in combat. The only complaint I have so far is the use of "first person cam" to drive all the cutscenes. So far in the demo it has been used pretty poorly, and really doesn't feel right. The FOV is pretty wide for most of the scenes, and seems to go even wider in the hanging scene (ick). Also directing the player's attention in FPS stuff is also difficult, doesn't seem to be much improved here (what was the thing that tore up my 'chute? are you supposed to see something?). For HL2:E2 to knock first person cutscenes out of the park, the way they are handled here seems like going back to grade school. Having this great tech and these great tools, it's a shame there aren't awesome third person cutscenes. Quote
Chunks Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 I played through it twice, that was awesome. I'm going to have to buy this sooner than I thought. It ran surprisingly well on my rig with the very high setting mod. little choppy here and there but by all means playable. Quote
NormySan Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Very nice game, i can only run at medium with my crap 256mb x1950xt so i decided to get a new one Pre-Ordered a 8800GT! Costs only 2100 SEK, about ~$300 with the super low dollar value. Quote
-HP- Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 Pre-Ordered a 8800GT! Costs only 2100 SEK, about ~$300 with the super low dollar value. Yeah, I read a lot of reviews about this card, and it seems It's the perfect quality/cost balance for next gen games ! Quote
