Warby Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Go to (where XXX is your Windows account name) G:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3 Demo\UTGame\Config\ open up UTEngine.ini and set DepthOfField and Bloom to False. DOF makes the biggest difference. Quote
Sindwiller Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 It's soooo freaking awesome The demo is really worth its size, and the retail version will sure be worth its money Quote
fonfa Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 looks kinda bad. too excessive. i'd rather have a cleaner visual Quote
Buddy Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Busy visuals, bugged. I'd rather have something cleaner Without bugs. Quote
-HP- Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 here's how horrible the DOF looks at low levels! Quote
aevirex Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 You have to increase the "screen" thingey... whatever it is. (But DoF sucks as well... most of the time) Quote

Skjalg Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 easily more awesome than tf2 and you are gay to think otherwise ;D Quote
Meotwister Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 if I had an awesome system I might be inclined to agree with you.. gameplay was fun and I guess that's all you could hope for... like to see the retail game's maps to see if they're any better. not really into this look as others have said. Mazy Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 I decided that I wanted humiliate my home computer once more and installed the demo. I could actually crank it up quite a lot (medium details that is) and still have a framerate somewhat over 20fps, so thats not bad, didn't look very good anyway though, kinda 16bit lighting all over the place. However I'm probably alone in thinking this, but the weapons and gameplay just isn't that well put together in this one. I mean that main thing that UT has to get right is the maps (They're pretty good) and the weapons, and all the weapon designs just felt really weak to me in this one. The only one that almost reached its former glory was the rocket launcher, maybe also the link gun, but everything else just feels so weak when you're firing them. I still don't get why they changed the UT99 Enforcer. They change it every fucking time, and it just gets worse with each iteration. And whats up with the minigun? What the fuck!??! Looks like something somebody duct taped behind a dumpster instead a cool killing machine. Bah, maybe its just me but I just thoroughly dislike the entire style of this UT. I totally agree with Hourences, in that it looks good but at this point it just looks like Gears of Tournament. Maybe I'm just looking too much for them to replicate the exact nostalgic feeling I have with the first UT, silly me Anyway, might get it if its cheap enough for PC, just to fuck around with the tools Quote
SixThree Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 Not impressed at all It's UT2004 all over again. Quote
Sindwiller Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 I don't really know why everyone is so negative about it The new weapon designs are kind of awkward, indeed, but still cool. The maps are well made and I find it actually pretty impressive how much they squeezed out of the engine without overloading it with a whole bunch of shaders and other features like Crysis did (dirty repeating normalmap noise pattern ftw). I like the style of the included maps - a bit tech/sci-fi, a bit urban stuff, and of course everything as dirty as possible I was very sceptical about the removed Translactor and double dodge, since I actually liked UT2k4 more than UT99. And I didn't expect too much from the weapon balancing. But when I played it for an hour or so, all my doubts disappeared. I like the new weapon balancing. The alt-fire of the minigun isn't obsolete anymore. The rocket launcher's snapping time is shorter. Movement is pretty nice, too. I personally like it and I'm glad that I've pre-ordered it Quote
-HP- Posted October 14, 2007 Author Report Posted October 14, 2007 I personally don't agree, gameplay is much better than UT2k4 which honestly sucked imho. It's obviously not a ut99 clone in terms of gameplay either, but it really does feel like ut99! I was really disappointed when I saw that ut3 still got those stupid wall jumps, but oh well, at least It's something way more subtle than ut2k4. I also disliked the minigun, the primary fire is ok, but the secondary feels like Quake's nailgun, just fucking stupidity, what we're they thinking? Apart from that, I like the demo, and I'll be definitely getting the full game. Quote

Thrik Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 I'm really not keen on the art direction in this. Even though the maps are technically created really well, they just don't seem to come together into a cohesive, vibrant whole like the maps in the older UT games did. I mean some of the older maps were pieces of art in their own right, but these just seem a bit grimy and shit. I moved on from the UT gameplay a long time ago though so unsurpirisngly I didn't enjoy playing it much. Too fast and too many deaths from guys I never even saw for me. Quote
