F.E.A.R. 2 - Project Origin : 18 minute gameplay video

The only point I really liked in FEAR was all the particles effects/decals/damage animations that made the shootouts look quite impressive.

I found the flashlight running out of battery every 30 seconds or so a real pain, for my eyes and for the immersion.

Scary scenes might be scary, I felt like being tricked by the always dark environments & boo!-little-girl-flashes-in-front-of-you moments.

*Spoiler*

The worst thing is that there are sunrise/noon scenes at the beginning and end of FEAR, and it looked pretty good IMO, I would have appreciated more of such outdoor environments, more windows, etc. More contrast in lighting sources etc. and not just between plain black shadows and white industrial lamps.

You'r french, so you would feel terrified by a princes dressed of orc, so you'r opinion is non valid!

CORWIN FAIL! :D:D

wow it might not become the new benchmark in fps gaming, but I don't agree with the overall rather negative response.

It looks very similar to the original F.E.A.R (I actually didn't see any glaring graphic updates), but if I want to play shooters with open environments I play BF2, Halo3, wait for Crysis or whatever. I am a little surprised by myself that I defend a linear, corridor shooter, but despite the obvious franchise milking (which you simply cannot afford not to do nowadays) you gotta give these guys some props for the ambiance.

I thought the first F.E.A.R was pretty creepy, but some of the scenes and effects in that video were even better! I love what they do with the sound and music to build up suspension (the whispering, music stingers, the rustling from the commander's intercom was also pretty clever :-D ), although it was just a video, the timing between audio and visual effects always looked really spot on. You can't just come up with a whole bunch of scarry scenes like that, especially for 2 games, you got to watch a lot of horror movies and extract the right material to get it right. It IS a horror movie you play in. The soldiers look pretty standard, sure, but how cool are those crawling/jumping zombies? I thought these teleporting, wall bouncing soldiers in the first part were already pretty scarry. Some of their first person stuff is also still quite nice.

So even if I go out on a limb here for the Monolith guys, I don't think it's all that bad ;)

We are performing site maintenance. Please be patient

Fuck you :fist::mad:

In the meantime:

1) F.E.A.R. has the best combat in any FPS ever, excellent AI.

2) F.E.A.R. made me jump several times but didn't actually scare me.

3) F.E.A.R. > Half-Life 2

4) The second F.E.A.R. expansion is called 'The Perseus Mandate' and is being developed by Timegate studios (who made Extraction Point) and will be released as a standalone title apparently... $$$?! Sounds about right.. :/

Its too bad though, I'd really like to see Monolith doing a new NOLF, that series could definitely use some more games in my opinion.

Blood III... Blood III!!!!

I think people are getting used to new engines for new releases these days, hl2, unreal 3, crysis, all on the way.

I think Fear1 was pretty good, and if fear2 is the same, it'll still be pretty good for those who really liked fear1.

seeing as they let their fanbase pick the title, i thin kit's really aimed at their fanbase, and not so much to attrackt new people, just to please the fans and let them have some more fun with the original concept of the game.

I'm sure there will be improvements here and there, but i think this game was aimed at people who actually liked fear 1, most negative comments on here come from people who don't have the most positive opinion of fear 1 anyway, and it'll be hard to like a new game if it's so similar to the first one which you didn't like.

I enjoyed playing Fear 1, and the expansion pack thingy, and i hope i'll have as muhc fun with this title, i'm glad they didn't switch to some 'oh my god gfx!' engine, because my next computer upgrade won't be any time soon anyway ^^

I just enjoyed it a lot more, really really loved the combat in F.E.A.R. In HL2, the Combine A.I. is rubbish, they just stand there shooting at you sometimes sidestepping and that's about it, it's almost a step down to the original Half-Life. F.E.A.R.'s clones kick objects over for cover, hide around corners until you come near them and often try to flank you, that said they still seemed to walk casually into mines  Although in essence F.E.A.R. is still fairly linear, HL2 had next to no choice about how you approached some areas, often throwing the player one direction whereas F.E.A.R. gave you a choice in some parts as to how you approached a combat situation, I liked that little touch. I'm not saying Half-Life 2 is shit or anything (far from it, as I've said before several times), I just liked F.E.A.R. especially and imho it is a better game.

As for people moaning that the title is generic, Project Origin is the title for the experiment used to create Alma, Fettel and the pointman so I guess it'll go deeper into that, although I don't see how seeing as the facility was nuked in the original game.. :?

While I'm not on this project (even though I know a thing or two about it), I can say some things :)

1. Some of these comments are pretty funny, some are clever!

2. There's lots of ignorance here- try not to judge a book by it's cover. Just because you see this or you see that, doesn't mean that's all there is. That's about all I will say about that.

yeah, I was going to say; it's a bit odd basing an opinion of a game on a few minutes of gameplay.

The environments look well made and convincing, lots of nice little details and nice lighting. The general scripting of the gameplay looks really well done too. Great sound fx and atmospheric ambience too.

The particle fx look pretty nice too, especially the bullet impacts on the walls, a nice puff of plaster gives a real satisfaction element to firing your weapon.

And for a 360 game you are using limited resources anyway so glass disappearing after a second or too isn't that big a deal, and it's not something I would judge a game on :)

Admitedly I thought the first FEAR was rather bland, journey through warehouses and office blocks, but it had a nice jumpy element throughout and the visuals were not that bad at all, even when running on low.

I would be tempted to give this a whirl, why not? It looks nice, great art and sounds, good design and a few games behind them to build upon and improve..

Having seen that video properly now, I am downloading a high-res version, loved every minute of it, granted a lot of the old F.E.A.R. props and effects but is that such a bad thing? Does everything have to look as good as Crysis? The ending was immense, I really really want to know what happens next and is that ATC you're fighting again? The plot thickens...

[edit]IGN downloads at 30kb/s.. Any other mirrors are appreciated!

wow i actually really liked it. regardless if its the same engine or not the creepy feeling was still there and i liked the ending alot.

Same! Graphics looks tad better, few new effects here and there, nice level design with much more details than the first one, gameplay looks cool and interactive cutscenes are awesome!

I liked all the little set pieces they had going on, hopefully it’ll try to be a bit more adventurous rather than trying to hit every box in the list of clichés like its predecessor. But I had no dislike to F.E.A.R really, outside of its silly title.

But still, the actual fighting seems to be pretty boring and lack feedback. Unloading bullets from peashooters into enemies for the reward of a small red mist and having them ragdoll afterwards seems a bit rudimentary. The environment seems relatively static with only the odd triangles of glass awaiting the odd stray bullet. The enemies also seemed to be quite stupid and our supposed anti-hero seems to react to bullets in the gut only slightly more realistically than Monkey D. Luffy

LACKING feedback? I thought FEAR was one of the best games around in that regard - enemies always died in awesome ways! Fly kicking an enemy in slow motion and sending them flying backwards over a meeting room table, letting off a few rounds of their gun into the ceiling before they skid into an enemy at the far end of it? Doesn't get much better than that IMO :) Cool effects like arms and heads flying off happened too, but unlike most games that feature them it was used only occasionally, which made it much cooler on the occasions that it did. FEAR wasn't perfect, mostly due to the ridiculous repetition in the environments, but the actual combat was easily some of the best I've come across in an FPS.

I really did not like FEAR, I felt the art was bland, the gameplay repetitive and the "horror" stuff so incredibly generic. :/

Don't really understand the hype tbh, so yeah, not exited at all for this.

same here also the game was too gray-boring, and because of that i cheated and almost won the game.

actually pretty boring, this video spoils da game..

:(
