-HP- Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 This is bullshit... IGN know, they've just sat down with a copy of the new, ready-for-release cut of Manhunt 2. So just what, exactly, is the difference between it and the original, not-suitable-for-release version? They report that the victim of the censor's blade has been the game's death sequences, those little cutscenes you got when successfully bringing an opponent down via stealth. One, involving a set of pliers and a man's kenobis, has been completely removed. All other kill shots have been graphically edited, so that the camera darkens and blurs, obscuring just what exactly is going on. You can still get the rough idea (ie knife to face), just not in the same vivid detail as before. I wish I could play the original one... I mean, omg... nothing like leaving the really violent stuff to the player's imagination, that shit It's probably worse than if they'd just left the original scenes in... BURN!! Quote
Thrik Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Yeah, lamery. I mean I personally don't get off on the whole brutal, graphic killing thing, but if movies like this (this was shown in the UK and also contains a one-shot 10-minute rape scene, but not in this video; it takes about a minute for the violence to kick in) can get away with it then games clearly should. That said, the uncensored PlayStation 2 version was leaked onto Internets a few weeks ago, albeit in a buggy, beta state. If seeing the original means that much to you it might be worth tracking down. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 That was fucken sick.... Manhunt in no way is that violent. That clip was just messed up, its hard to think I even kept watching Quote
dux Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Is it wrong that I got some sort of sick satisfaction from watching that? Quote
ChopperDave Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Yeah that clip was pretty nasty. Quote
Defrag Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Why am I not surprised than Manhunt 2 is now cleared for release when the original judgement made out that the content and concept was fundamentally 'wrong'? The way I understood the initial ban announcement was that, short of a fundamental redesign, the game would never be fit for release. Well, that's what they said, but I was always extremely sceptical that the game wouldn't be released. Nor was I under the illusion that the content would drastically change. Call me a cynic, but I'm in no way surprised that they've managed to turn it around while simultaneously gaining so much (free) publicity. It'll be interesting to compare the unreleased & released content. I'm betting that they've just toned down the violence a touch and that's about it. Quote

D3ads Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Agrrhhh, not Irreversible again, that clip made me throw up the first time you posted it Anyway.. a load of bullshit on the MH2 front, still I wonder how long it'll be before it's banned again because someone stabbed someone else who owned the game.. Quote
Sentura Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 pretty long for an execution scene... i'd like it more if he had some razor sharp nails, then rolled him onto the back and ripped his spine out with his bare hands. i dont mind people beating each other up like this, what i do mind is when people kill animals for fun (see zippocat etc). Nexus Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Yeah that clip was pretty nasty. Quote
Taylor Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Yeah, lamery. I mean I personally don't get off on the whole brutal, graphic killing thing, but if movies like this (this was shown in the UK and also contains a one-shot 10-minute rape scene, but not in this video; it takes about a minute for the violence to kick in) can get away with it then games clearly should. Well, generally the argument is that violent video games have the added element of being interactive. Of course we know that these fatalities are essentially movies within the game, the people complaining about Manhunt 2 and its predecessor were of course painted a vivid picture that we’re manually torturing innocent people in some kind of murder simulator. I was trying to find a link to the torture scene in Ichi the Killer (well, one of them - the guy suspended in air) but YouTube has put 18 ratings on all those so you need an account. I find it funny that Irreversible one hasn't been tagged the same. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 A difference may be that Irreversible has a anti-violent message tho (as it shows how unexpected violence can destroy the lifes of normal people from one moment to the next). Still there should be no censorship for adults in my opinion. It's silly. Quote
Thrik Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Yeah, I have to agree that makes no sense Taylor. I was originally under the impression you'd be using something like your Wiimote to participate in these violent scenes, but then discovered that like before you just watch them as a reward. As such, like you say we're taking no active role in the slaying and so it should be treated just like a film. Heck, in that respect Rockstar were quite smart -- yet still got censored. Quote
