Grin Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 The model is awesome but the design is just meh.. Quote
Sa74n Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 like grin and warby said.. its nicely modeled but it lacks a proper structure. it has a lot of fancy shaped panels, curves and details but it doesnt seem like they are there for a reason. what i mean is that this is just visually appealing but doesnt make a lot of sense if you know what i mean. i know its definitely too late to fix this but something for you to keep in mind for your next model. simplifying things often not only helps the quality of the model but also reduces your workload (i.e. why spend time modeling all those little details and funky shapes if they dont improve the final result) Quote
Psyshokiller Posted September 30, 2007 Author Report Posted September 30, 2007 Ah that's the kind of comment I like to read. I think the main reason for the "random curvy look" is, that there was no concept and alot of things has been done spontainiously, more or less. Although I have to say that the Vehicle is an alien one, which is supposed to fit Prey's art style. I know that these points are still valid even with these facts. I'm not too confident about the body either, but I do like the way the legs turned out. Could you go a bit more in depth about them? Thanks for the critique. Quote
Zyn Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 One thing that gets me though, is that it's freakin' huge and all, bulky and sturdy... with a peashooter. Quote
Psyshokiller Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 Scaled it up already. But remember: Size doesn't matter! Quote
Grin Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 This is exactly what I mean. I don't know what kind of game is it ment for, but a giant headcrab kind of thingy that exposes the driver doesn't exactly scream danger. It doesn't matter how big you make the gun, it doesn't look like a really good design, and, unless it shoots projectiles, it shouldn't have a barrel either. So if it's some kind of an energy weapon, I'd recommend making look like something that comes from an actual spider.. Quote

You'r points are valid if you assume it's a Vehicle used by humans, but when it comes to alien stuff the rules change a bit. You still have to think about obvious flaws, such as the exposed driver you mentioned, that's for sure. In the end, it shouldn't have a too big effect on the vehicle's impression, beause it's some kind of long range covering fire weapon, which means it will position in the back lines of an aussault. Considering the spider suggestion, don't take the word spider in the title too serious, sure it reflects the basics of a spider but it's not meant to mimmic one. Quote
