Hourences Posted September 3, 2007 Report Posted September 3, 2007 A strange move, but good luck and enjoy Quote
Bl1tz Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Good luck FrieChamp! I think you'll have a blast I've been thinking a lot about going back to school too but I dunno it's just so nice to have some money and a good job without a degree that it seems counter productive to go back! Quote
Furyo Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Except you may still be doing that same job 10 years from now because your employer will imagine you're only capable of doing that. The more choices the merrier Quote
R_Yell Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Someone leaving the industry by its own free will, this doesn't happen everyday. So do you want a real job eh? Good luck FrieChamp. Quote
Zacker Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Sounds like a well thought through decission, I am sure it wasn't easy to just give up on a fantastic job at Crytek. I am curious however, what exactly is "Media economics" about? Does it have anything to do with game or graphic design? Or is it a traditional economics degree with a little twist? But good luck! FrieChamp Posted September 4, 2007 Author Report Posted September 4, 2007 Sounds like a well thought through decission, I am sure it wasn't easy to just give up on a fantastic job at Crytek. I am curious however, what exactly is "Media economics" about? Does it have anything to do with game or graphic design? Or is it a traditional economics degree with a little twist? But good luck! Economics is certainly one element of the studies, but not everything. It basically covers everything you might need if you work in a media related business. That could be a newspaper/magazine, a publisher, TV or radio station...So I also get to improve my language skills, I can focus on project managment or marketing later on. Everything's also meant to be more practical and not as theoretical as traditional economics at regular universities, which I find appealing. But it doesn't have anything to do with design, neither game or graphics related. I see these studies as an opportunity to widen my horizon and gain myself more options as to what I will end up doing the rest of my life (probably), instead of digging further in just one field. hessi Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 good luck! It's good to get away from the crunch of games sometimes. There is a whole world out there! I know man, featuring sunlight and everything even the graphics are better than in crysis! and everything gets rendered smoothly at unlimited fps! edit: you know i appreciate everybody who puts going university above "the industry". it is so easy to get a job at a game company, but it is much harder to get a degree and become someone more important than the little prop artist or level designer! that's why i go to university: to keep my self all possibilities related to my interests! i like graphics, i like programming, i like technology and making concepts. that's what my degree is about. being someone who is tough enough to solve many different problems. anyway, wishing you all the best and probably we can once again have a party, because bielefeld isnt the end of the world Quote

ShaDoW Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Those jokes are worse than Shadows mapping Worse than your screenshot which you showed me earlier? I don't think so! Congratulations FrieChamp. Personally I don't think I could get myself to do something like that. Respect. Quote
Steppenwolf Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Bielefeld gibts doch garnich! Trotzdem viel Erfolg! Quote
clayman Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 sounds like fun dude, good luck and have a blast! Quote
Section_Ei8ht Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Best of luck! Major props for making the decision broaden the horizon and do what you love. Quote
Skjalg Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Woah, I certainly did not expect to see this! I think you are doing the right thing though, the "I'm going to do it some day attitude" only works a few years, then you forget about it I wish you good luck with your studies, you'll find you have loads of free time (or not sometimes ). Does this mean we'll see some new custom levels by you in here? ;D Quote
cyberjunkie Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Frie~~ All the best with the studies! I'm sure you'll come out even more successful, refined and wiser than you already are at the end of it! Does this also mean you're coming back to spend more time with #mapcore?!?! Quote
