The BioShock Thread! For people who have finished it yo

Ok if you ain't finished the game, best go away now.

So it's pretty much common knowledge that both the endings suck in that special Irrational Games way. I.E rushed like a bugger compared to the rest of the game. But when the rest of the game is so rich and immersing it can be forgiven. So what were the thoughts on the obvious Atlas fucking you in the arse oh no wait it's Fontaine thing? I knew something was obviously going to happen with him - I initially thought he was going to die at the sub but was somewhat surprised he lived through that. I loved the whole "Would you kindly..." thing, was totally amazing how that was played out and revealed to you. Brilliance. And what are the thoguhts on becoming a big daddy, I thought it was cool idea, but was pulled off a bit weakly. Mainly you have a huge suit on, but your hands are still the same as before and you move as if it weighs 5pounds.

I'm still confused as to the whole thing surrounding the sub, was there anything in it? Or was it just blown up to prevent anyone escaping, even though you are led to believe Atlas's family is in it? Oh, yeah - Telekinesis = best Plasmid ever

On my Second tour at the moment, just finished Fort Frolic. And lol at the puppy neck snapping by evil German.

Aye, endings were a disaster in my opinion. Really suckerpunched me since I was just playing a really through and through all round excellent game, and then it pulls that kind of crap. Sad.

Thats not entirely true though, I thought the idea of ending the game with an escort mission was horrible as well. The idea of becoming a Big Daddy by the end of the game, after having fought against them for an entire game, was kinda cool. But I do think it looked better on paper than in the actual game. It was by far not the worst escort mission ever, and its not that I really would've minded having an escort mission in the game. Its just that when you're winding down the experience that has otherwise been almost flawless in this fashion it does feel more like a mistake than something that belongs there.

Anyway, enough about that. Yeah, the plot twist, still the main thing I ended up talking the most about. Although I knew there was something up with Atlas then the entire thing still blew my mind. Its also awesome to play through the game again and notice the points where "Would you kindly" is mentioned, and how low key they're trying to keep it while still having you be some what subconsciously aware of him saying it.

So yeah. Its funny, I think its probably the best game this year so far, but also one of the most overrated ones in ages. There's something about the fact that nearly everyone gives it 10/10 or 100% that makes you look more critically on it, and even with my love for the game then I dont think it deserves those kinda scores. Its definitely a 9/10, maybe 9.5/10'ish.

Anyway, back to Hard, which is kinda hard actually :D

Too right, the game is nails on hard. They must have like 3-4 times the amount of health they do on normal setting. Good fun though although I am dead a whole crapload more often than on my last playthrough.

I haven't played it on Hard as I expect it will be a complete disaster, as my framerate suffers bad enough when in combat with more than 3 enemies, so I can imagine how overly difficult and frustrating that will be on Hard with 10fps.

I quite enjoyed it, except for the ending as has already been mentioned. I also didn't like the big daddy transformation. It seemed all you got out of the deal was a more limited field of view, which was narrow enough to begin with.

The rest of the game was great though. I played it on hard, and now I'm going back through on medium. I've already found some areas I've missed before :)

I didn't mind the escort mission too much, though it could have been a lot better if they did more with 'the becoming the big daddy' angle. Obscuring your vision through a divers helmet wasn't enough :(

Though, the ending with the little sisters jumping Fontaine makes up for the typical end boss design. I was hoping for something a bit more interesting, sort of like what they did with killing off Ryan but gameplay oriented. Just something outside of the typical end boss route

Also, I was kind of confused as to what was going on with the submarine and the Tanenbaum voice over detailing how you're a selfish ass. Counting me out of the good ending for saving all but two of the sisters is a bit harsh.

But all that aside, one of the best games I've played in some time.

I have to say I was somewhat disappointed with the Big Daddy transformation. After seeing Rosie drop the fat ass rivet gun thing she used as a weapon I was fully expecting to get access to that for the Big Daddy section. But noooooo all you get is a porthole to look through...

I know most bosses in games like these are "use the powers you gained over the game to take out the Big Bad Boss," but I never died during the Final Boss battle. I only used a few health packs on him before his first change, and never used a health pack again I think. Then it just cuts to a 30 second cutscene and the game is over? WHAT?! Talk about anti-climatic

i just completed it, and for some reason in my mind i cant get it to match the hype in my head. sure, it's an original game and everything; the setting/environment unmatched, but it just seems weird how you're isolated from all real people (they either die or you can't get to them) and that really turned me off (you mostly hear the radio, everyone you meet is HOSTILE). also, while the number of different splicers was good, meet human/robot only enemies made for some very boring combat, and i really felt frustrated fighting the same things at the last level that i did in all the previous levels as well.

having played the thief games, i could see the spirit of pagans in the houdini splicers and i really loved how they acted hostile towards even other splicers. that was really one of the better things in the game. the 'would you kindly' thing was great as well, since you don't really notice it before he tells you; and the next sentence after that is just perfect how he mixes the different politeness levels, "would you kindly turn of the fucking thing". it also seems to me that the different ending split up after you've been at tannerbaum's orphanage, so you only have to complete the latter part of the game again for the second ending? the way she tells you, 'it's up to you what you want to do with the girls now'. i do like how the good ending twisted at the end after fontaine, i had expected it would go a completely different way than that (that you do the final thing to become a big daddy and watch over the girls forever), although the boss was easier than some of the previous mobs i had fought (didnt die once).

i had more to say but i forgot what it was, so ill just end it here. score: 8/10; it could have been better and more immersive instead of isolating.

I beat the game on Friday, and I haven't read this thread either, but I was disappointed by the ending.

The boss fight was way too easy and quick, as you could just fill yourself with napalm and exploding buck. I would have enjoyed a fight till the last bullet, or using some sort of story trick to kill him (like making him have an adam overdose).

And the worst part was the story. Cheesy ending but I don't really mind. It was the way the story conclusion felt rushed. I kept having these images pop up in my head from time to time, and it was never used as a story plot, then all of a sudden this guy tells me I'm the closest thing he's ever had to a son, and he put me in a submarine...ok what the hell? Why did you feel the need to put me in a sub in the first place, what was my "mission" etc.

Didn't feel like there'd be an extension pack or a Bioshock 2 either...

Never touched anything BioShock related. Took the affordable method and skimmed through the plot on Wikipedia.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault certainly had a crappier ending, right?

The big "dun dun dun" plot twist didn't impress me. It's too drastic. On top of which, there was some Star something, or maybe it was blah blah Wars, anyway, some movie had some twist like that a good 20 years ago.
