-HP- Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 http://kotaku.com/gaming/clips/psp-2k-v ... oplay=true Gonna buy one, as soon as it's out here in Europe! Quote
st0lve Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Hopefully it's cheap And allows homebrew stuff, if not, I don't care to buy an psp. Quote
Thrik Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 It's very, erm... similar. As someone who doesn't own a PSP, I don't think I'd immediately notice this is a significantly different design from the original other than the colour (and even with a photo to compare it still doesn't seem too different). Seems weird to put what was presumably some hefty development costs into what is quite a minor refresh. I mean with the DS it was understandable because the original seriously looked like total ass and it was affecting sales a lot, but I'm not sure what the motive is here considering how long the PSP's been out. -HP- Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 One of the objectives of this console is to stop piracy, or at least delay it a bit, it has a totally different firmware, so it will be very hard for it to be cracked, I'm not saying it's impossible, they'll obviously manage to crack it, as they did with the first one, It's a matter of time... So, no homebrew, yet... Anyways, I don't own the original PSP, so I'll buy this one. Btw, here's a list of the features: * Better Wi-Fi connection * Faster loading times by storing UMD data in temporary memory. * Internal memory (RAM) increase from 32 MB to 64 MB * Improved battery life due to lower power consumption, and battery recharge over the USB data connection. However the old, higher-capacity PSP battery will still be compatible and using it will give an increased battery life, but the battery cover will not close when using the old battery due to the larger size. * Weight has been reduced by 33% * Unit is 19% narrower (slimmer) in thickness * A video-out port for displaying on a TV. * Improved responsiveness of d-pad[3] and buttons, confirmed in the GameSpot "hands-on" review; "several GameSpot editors have noticed that the d-pad and buttons on the new PSP provide a little more tactile feedback for a better overall feel."[4] * WiFi switch moved to the top of the console. * New UMD loading tray design. * Removal of the infra-red port being that it had no official use * Speakers repositioned on the front of the PSP near the top of the screen. * Memory Stick slot has been relocated Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_Slim Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Who needs this when you can have a GP2X for less money? Quote
-HP- Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 It's not the same thing man, but yeah, GP2X is a great portable console... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GP2X Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 I owned a gp2x myself last year and i thought the price/value relation is extremely good. Sure, the psp has some games that are only produced for it but seriously who needs that? When you sit in a train some Mario kart on SNES emulator is as entertaining as some half assed ps2 port for psp. And you dont even have to spent money on it. In terms of homebrew however the gp2x pwnd the psp very hard. Quote
Psy Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 The PSP has some shit games I must say. It seems like a great multimedia device though...a bit like the PS3. >> Quote
-HP- Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Well, you can run mega drive games as well, NES, SNES, PS1, etc etc etc... But I agree with you, by It's price Gp2X is a good portable console, but like Psycho says, PSP is a great multimedia device. Quote

Mazy Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Only think I'll get one if the one I have now breaks. If they added a second thumbstick I'd be all over it tho (Which they'll never do with this generation ) Quote
Taylor Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 There are some great games for it, Disgaea*, Crush, Every Extend Extra, Darkstalkers and Guilty Gear are how I survive public transport. But there's no point having a PSP if you can't put some dodgy firmware on there... even with those I spend most of the time in emulators. * English release still not due for a year... Quote
