Wunderboy
I think maybe 90% of you who are creating or using VTF files are using this already, but for those who don't you might find it useful. I've updated my VTF Shell Extensions to properly support Windows Vista as well as XP and W2k. The old version only worked on Vista 32-bit and only showed thumbnails. This new version works on 32-bit and 64-bit and fixes the details view not working. Also adds a natty little summary pop-up if you hover over a VTF file in Vista. If you're using a previous version I strongly recommend you un-install them first before installing this version. Full details, download link, etc here. Sentura
i've heard about this, the reason i didnt have it installed was because i heard alot of rumors about it making explorer crash? it might have been another shell extension (i dont know how many are out there)... Well no-one has yet come to me and told me it makes explorer crash although someone did mention there was a problem with another all-in-one thumbnail extension not playing nice with it. I've tested this version as best I can and Valve got a preview copy of and reported no bugs using it internally. now make an smd importer for max9 please It's on my to-do list. I did start one but theres a lot of coding needed to make the SMD data "sane" and convert it from individual triangles to one continuous mesh. I need to iron out a few bugs in the SMD exporter first and do a 64-bit version.

Wunderboy
Did you run the installer as admin? Did it tell you to re-boot? Sometimes you need to restart so that the explorer.exe process re-starts and reloads the plug-in properly. I've built/debugged/tested it about 50 times both installing/uninstalling on Vista 64-bit Ultimate and not had a problem - yet. If you're still having problems let me know. R_Yell
Thx a lot Wunderboy, I'm using Vista 32bit and works fine (no errors for the moment). Life is much easier with this extension
Wunderboy
OK. Solved the Vista 64bit problem. You need the VS2005 SP1 Runtimes installed for it to run. You should install them first, before installing the shell extensions but if you've installed them already, try a reboot after you install the runtimes. Sentura
i installed it and everything, but i have to ask: doesnt it show thumbnails in the information bar even if you are using a different view than thumbnails for pictures? Guess the problem is mostly on my end Anyways, i saw that it stated Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP Anyways, in your PM to me you stated that the new version would have something embedded, but there was no extra installer poping up :/

Guess the problem is mostly on my end Anyways, i saw that it stated Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP Hmm that does sound odd. Did you run vcredist_x64.exe as administrator? It does work under Vista too. In fact VS2005 SP1 is a *requirement* to actuall write apps for Vista so it's definately that version according to MS. I did a virgin install of Vista x64 Home edition and straight out a box the only requirement to make the extensions work were those runtimes installed. Anyways, in your PM to me you stated that the new version would have something embedded, but there was no extra installer poping up :/ Disregard the version in the link I sent you. It embedded part of the runtimes installer with it but it turns out that only solves the detail properties problems, not the thumbnails. Installing the runtimes package installs everything (MFC+ATL) that the VTF plug-in needs.
