It seems the copy protection on this game is super

There is no such thing as good copy protection.

And yet the fact remains that theres no scene release out. :P

I just watched Bioshock behind the scenes where they talked a lot about the different iterations of the game and just random bullshit they went through during development, its worth seeing if you are really into the game. There were a couple of things that bothered me tho. One was when the producer (a girl) started talking about the game, and I felt like I wanted to kill her, but I don't really know why, might be because she seemed to be so stupid.. What is a producer anyways? The other thing was at the end when their sound people(a girl) started talking about, duh, their sound and like she said like the word like, like in like in between like every like other like word.

If anyone would get a scene release of this, then he is a fucking moron.

Sorry.

If You could afford a rig that can run it well then WTF would You not be able to buy such a great title like BioShock.

Go Crack Halo.

Actually i think the exact contrary, why would i buy a game that give me an insecure and complicated activation process, rather than getting a version free of all that jizz. Let's say i want to play Bioshock in 5 years, with the repeated installations and uninstallations during 5 years don't you think i'll have already lost my 2 activations ? Then goes the hard process of emailing/phoning the companies which will redirect me to the other and so on, or even better.... tell me to buy another copy of Bioshock. ;x

I don't think i'll buy the game, several friends and me included wanted to do it at first because holy shit, games like that have to be supported, but i don't want to support such a constraining activation system. Because if i do, i'll be the real moron in the story.. and for the next coming years ..

It would be too easy to say that i'm upset by an ephemere disappointment, i'm not even that excited about it actually, it's the commercial stunt i denounce. When i spend my money to buy a game, i want to be able to play it all my life

God, the guy who made the widescreen hack is getting a free GeForce 8800 for it.

But yeah, I totally agree with the essence of that post. The whole thing is getting totally overblown, and in all honesty I bet the majority of those bitching about it wouldn't have had any problems even if they did buy it legally on the PC.

While these copyright things are kind of suspicious, it's not hard to blame them for trying to fight back when people have been flagrantly pirating the absolute fuck out of PC games for years.

These people who say they're only pirating to make a stand against the copyright stuff? Absolute bollocks. They pirate anyway, and have done for years. The only reason the companies are taking more drastic measures is because their software is getting thrown all over BitTorrent hours after release.

What about the guy who did the SM2 hack? He will probably get sued by Nvidia for making so many people not buy a new gfx card.

And even with these drastic measures, the games still get thrown all over BitTorrent hours after a release. So far the record for longest time between retail release and scene release is Splinter Cell Chaos Theory with 422 days using StarForce 3. On that 422nd day, the release came with reverse engineering instructions for the entire StarForce 3 framework, rendering it useless.

The only thing the protection does is prevent legitimate users from enjoying the product that they paid for. Rather than get a product that installs out of the box and they can play in a matter of minutes, they get something that is crippled with DRM (in the case of this version of securom, something that irreversibly modifies the system registry without telling you). The choice is between paying for something that fucks with your computer and probably wont work, or getting something that doesn't and is free.

I buy my games because the dev's need (and in most cases, deserve) the money, but I usually don't buy it until there has been a crackfix that removes the DRM from the game because I don't want that shit on my PC. Of course, there are unobtrusive forms of DRM, like Steam or earlier versions of Securom that didn't do anything like what it's doing now.

I bought the game on Steam. The reason I bought it on steam was beause I thought Securom would be removed since Steam uses it's own DRM scheme. I'm not going to play the steam version, but I'm going to play the pirated version because it doesn't fuck with my registry without telling me.

I paid for the game, it should play where I want when I want. The retail version doesn't do that, but the pirated version does.

Now I just have to ask: Does pirating a game I already bought make me a bad person?

422 days is a lot of sales :)

and "Does pirating a game I already bought make me a bad person?" not according to me, accept "supporting" the groups who provide the shit. But still, you bought the game, then morally you shouldn't give a crap. Same goes for music, if I bough a CD, I should be able to download it, cause it's faster then ripping it.

Maybe ripping a CD is also illegal, but I don't give a fuck, I just want to listen to the music/play the gane U bought...w/e

crayfish party ftw
