Defrag Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Extremely cool. My now-archaic 6800GT is really struggling, though. Bless it. P.s. did anyone else sit around at the end of the intro sequence wondering when the game was going to start, only to be prompted to shift your arse? (as it had started and it wasn't pre-rendered ) Quote

Ginger Lord Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 I think I'm gonna have to change the drivers cos at high its pretty stuttery but amazing looking. Anything less than high looks like badgers arse. E6750/2Gb/7900GS Quote

Ginger Lord Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Tried the new drivers, worked better. Still laggy in places, guess I need a 8800 card Cool demo. + Amazing theme + Water fx + Cool weapons and plasmids - No level loading bar indicator - Not amazing at anything less than high - Widescreen support is arse Quote
ReNo Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Yeah, companies really need to get widescreen sorted out. Sure, most games work fine, but I've played a few that don't now. Bioshock seems to be getting a lot of flak for it, but I finally got around to finishing Condemned last night and I felt that had a really small FOV when running in widescreen, and I had a shot on King Kong not so long ago and that seemed to suffer from the same problem. Maybe I'm imagining it, but they both felt extremely constricting. Quote
Defrag Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 I don't really get it either, ReNo. It's not like it's rocket surgery to get it right. Maybe when it's wrong it's just the case that a programmer just kinda hacked it in and thought it looked fine without thinking too much about it, but actually ballsed-up the calculations? Quote
KungFuSquirrel Posted August 22, 2007 Author Report Posted August 22, 2007 Official comment now seems to be that they actually expanded widescreen vertically to fill 4:3, rather than the other way around. The FOV is narrow either way you look at it, as many non-twitch shooters tend to be. Even HL2 pulled the FOV in from the usual 90. I usually get pretty uppity about FOVs being too small (Halo 2 drove me insane), but playing 720p on the 360 feels fine to me. Tricky thing is, in games where we're rendering real-time on the fly, we actually can just add more to the screen in addition to cropping things out, so I think people are going to freak out either way. Don't think it's as huge an issue as it's being built up to be though. Also, this game is damn good. Like, first playthrough of Half-Life good. Holy shit. Quote

Izuno Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 played it today on 360. So far I like it but haven't played enough of it yet. I would actually like to try the PC version... Quote
Mazy Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Yeah Izuno, I saw that (DAMN YOU!). Tried the PC demo on my work machine, ran a perfect 60fps with all details on and in the max res. Didn't even have to update my gfx drivers (it does have some fairly hefty specs tho...dual something ) . Does look slightly crisper than the 360 version, but dammit I wanna lie down while playing! WD Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Haha I tried to run bioshock demo with my x850 which doesnt support 3.0 shaders, I was amazed that I didnt get any errors when I ran it. Though when I got to in game I only saw black with lots of blue cubes in my screen and only sprites was correcly drawn I'll definitely gonna buy this game when I update my pc Quote
KoKo5oVaR Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Cool game yeah yeah... still. I'm afraid the warez version will be more convenient to use than the legal one, at least on PC .. I'm not sure that all this totally stupid activation system will have the effect they wanted it to have at the first place. Basically, when you buy the game, you got the right to 2 activations. And to get one back, you have to uninstall the game properly. What if your pc crashes because of a virus or if you've forget to uninstall bioshock before formatting your computer ? => Things like this happens : Quote
dux Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 Yeah people are really raging big time at 2k on the forums about it. Quote
