Thrik Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 This widescreen thing definitely needs stamping down on. Battlefield 2 and 2142 are other games that do the whole cropping thing, and it's just lame. I do see their point in saying that widescreen gamers could see more on the screen at once (especially snipers), but seriously, it wouldn't take much genius to just change the game itself slightly to compensate. In Battlefield, they could just make it so you don't get markers telling you whether they're foes or friends towards the edges, stuff like that. In BioShock it's irrelevant as it's single-player. Better be fixed in an upcoming patch. Voice your hate, all. Quote
-HP- Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Ok, played trhough the demo! I fucking loved it, such stunning shaders, loved it! looking forward to play the game itself, It's a must! Quote

Izuno Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 i got a copy in the mail today...hope to play it this week. Quote
Thrik Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Amazing atmosphere; the whole unveiling of the city is truly something special, and delivered with mastery. They did an absolutely amazing job of littering the environment with signs of a once thriving, friendly city that's completely gone wrong -- it was that kind of thing that made stuff like Black Mesa and the System Shock space station cool. I kept getting completely bummed in the gob right at the end of the demo, though. Hopefully when I get back off holiday on like September 8th a patch will have fixed some of the bollocks like the widescreen controversy and the weird-feeling mouse on some PCs (acceleration problem I think). Section_Ei8ht Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 I bought my copy off steam. Got home today and played it for a bit and from what I played, it was fantastic. Only problem is that I can't really play the game because it keeps crashing. The longest I've been able to play without it crashing is about 15 minutes. So far I've had one bluescreen, two bioshock.exe crashes, one steam.exe crash, and one hey-lets-make-both-your-monitors-stop-responding-resulting-in-a-manual-cold-restart. I have a 7800GTX and the latest drivers. I must say that I'm quite disappointed. Makes me wish steam had a refund policy. Hopefully this gets sorted out with a patch. [edit]Oh yeah, and I'm not using Vista. Quote
dux Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Really? Was the PC Demo stable for you or didn't you ever try it? Quote
Thrik Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Make sure you've got the brand new NVIDIA beta drivers (or they may be non-beta, not sure). They were specifically released to address compatibility and performance issues with BioShock. The magic number is 163.44. They'll be on Guru3D.com, and they've also been included next to downloads of the game/demo quite widely. Quote
Thrik Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Incidentally, I got a bit confused when setting my graphic options. If you've got the appropriate PC, 'Force Global Lighting' should actually be set to OFF for the best lighting; apparently it lessens or disables the dynamic/reflective lighting if set to ON. Kind of confused me as OFF is on the left I think, and you'd normally associate 'left' with 'worst' when it comes to PC graphic options. Also, some cool 360/PC screenshot comparisons for those interested here: http://forum.teamxbox.com/showpost.php?postcount=729 Quote

I tried them, and performance was WORSE for me and the control panel refused to work, as I mnetioned in my other thread. . So reverted lol. And that link you posted doesn't work. Quote
Furyo Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Demo was smooth as silk on my core2 duo and 8800 GTS, all details cranked up in 1600*1200 Most excellent game by all accounts, I'm just gonna have to order it Quote

-HP- Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 My system specs is: 7900 GTX, 2GB Ram, 4200+ x2 And it ran very smoothly @ 1152x864 I wonder if I can run UnrealTournament3 as well as I ran the Bioshock demo Quote
