curman
I really love the engraving design, that looks top notch. But I dunno, the wood and metal, well.. The wood looks really low resolution compared to the rest. The metal itself also doesn't appear to 'metal'ish. It looks great, but it looks like you focussed more attention on the engraving then the rest sort of got finished in a hurry?
hessi
yeah thats always a problem to make the metal look like metal. ingame a specularmask is used which makes it more reflective and therefore more metalic in some screenshots you might notice the yellow and blue lights i used to make the screenshots. besides regular brightness it is specularity you see there thanks anyway
curman
I haven't skinned a gun in a long while, but I think a large mistake people make is over scratching. I mean this as constructive critism, not to flame you, you're a great artist. The gun barrel just seems to.. be insanely damaged. Which is fine, but that many scratches like doesn't seem to possible.. That's something I did really fast. I think when people do metal it's more just a spongey-noise grey. With the occassional scratch or ding amongst the edge. But that is just me.
Quakis
I prefer Curman's approach to the metal, but still some top notch work there Hessi.

mjens
looks very nice. Can you show screenshots with wireframe?
hessi
You know what i think about it hessi , but did you made those engravings yourself or is it from photoref ? engravings are painted. i saw some photos and made myself photoshop brushes of generic shapes, then made several combination and finally applied a bunch of photoshop layer effects on it
Bic-B@ll
lol is there a reason for 37 of the same screw? anywho, looks nice. i just wish that if people made guns to be used with iron sights they would put a lot of attention towards parts that would be brought to the eye. hessi
uhm i actually paid attention to the parts that will be seen close up in the iron sight :X http://www.thomashess.net/sharps2.jpg the wood could not get more detail there because it already took lots of space and in order to keep it seamless i had to go for a compromise :/ thanks for the comment anyway
SnipaMasta
Your style reminds me a lot of the DOD:S textures (in a good way ). The engravings look fantastic, too.
Pericolos0
Yeah looks nice, i like the little curly details, but it all seems kinda lowres to me , especially the wood parts. Which is definitely because your wood source is a bit blurry, you could definitely get more detail in it with a texture resolution like that. hessi
the front of the model is not modeled because it is very uncommon that the player will look into his own rifle! it looks so thin because bachface culling is disabled in high quality mode from maya. so if i could enable it you would see that there are no polies to simulate the muzzle (and i did never even think of modelling them ).
