capone_adam Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Some WIP on a treasure chest I am working on. Just normals and diffuse so far. Still need to touch up textures, create a specular to light up the metal and fix the normal map (the sides in particular). Any advise? Quote
Skjalg Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 VERY nice normal map you got there... You are really good at skinning... The chest could loose a few polies though, and still keep the same shape. Quote

The only one in question as far as I can see is on the front in the middle though the only other option would involve a really harsh connection. Is this the one you meant or are there others? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 you can make the woods behind the detail stuff one plane and you can weld some vertices in the center of the crate where its mirrored. would save you around 75 tris. Quote

I always forget you can do that. Quote
st0lve Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Also on the top, you can wield the center one to one of the sides without any visual lost really. I've also wanted to do a chest for a while, maybe for the next low poly contest? Quote
Skjalg Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 yeah what i ment is basically what the others here are saying.. You can save polies by keeping one side in one plane... you really cant tell once its done anyways You can also do this on the edges, (shave off two~four polies here and there)... Just go over your model again and do it, will probably get you into the thinking process Quote
