I think what ruins the house is the fact that the interior is still so intact.. Theres this huge hole in the wall that is definatly cause by some explosion, it just doesnt seem like there has been an explotion around it

Hmmm, I see what you mean, I will work on that later

Well here is my last update for a while as I need to get back to orangemapping and get the layout done so I can test with a bunch of friends. (anyone want in?)

But yeah, that will be the most destroyed house (except maybe one of the spawn areas, but that doesn't really matter as it wouldn't effect gameplay

You map like you're being haunted by the evil spirit of The_Postman himself..
What?!?

The whole ruined part looks pretty damn strange. It's cool, but not really realistic. There is really no house left to carry the rest of it :o

What are you talking about boy? There is plenty left to hold it up, holy wow can I ever please you guys? Good lord, I have no idea what there is left to do!!! I listened to everyones ideas/fixes only to be presented with more that could have been brought up at an earlier time.

I just don't see how the building would go from being a normal building to a ruined building like that. What happened to it? Bomb? Tankshell? Poor carpentering?

Personally I'd shave of one of the corners + some of the "main" wall. I think.

You know, ruins are kinda hard to get right.

I've been saying for a while that the basic idea was dumb

if you sat there and looked at it objectively you'd see the building makes 0 sense (not to mention it looks ugly and generic)

Hey ass, rather than just insulting why not give me crits on how to make it better. I am really getting tired of your worthlessness

lmfao

I don't really see how you were offended by what I said. That same kind of "technique" the displacement hole (2 unit thick brushes sandwiching the bulbous edges) thing is very overdone in DoD maps and generic, and you're totally overdoing it by making it half the building. So 1) unrealistic 2) overdone and of course 3) not worth the effort and time you put into it as a concept

so my advise? yeah don't do it

The building looks fine to me, I don't see why it would collapse. It's missing most of one wall, that wouldn't make the whole thing collapse since there is still partial structure. The only thing on a realism aspect I'd say to fix is that rubble has somehow fallen all around the lamp-posts but they are still perfectly intact. Same with the staircases. Otherwise I'd say it looks decent enough - all buildings in DoD have the problem of looking 'generic' as FMPONE is complaining about, but in terms of how you've done it it looks fairly cool and it's hardly 'ugly'.

I don't buy that at all, its a total cop out and I don't think theres anything wrong with pointing it out

god knows how much C17 maps all get called "generic" now because there are thousands of them and they all look the same, its the same concept here just not quite as overdone (yet). And all the better if steps are taken to differentiate the map from the crowd

Okay Mr. "mapping god" what the hell should I do with this building then? :|

lmfao and I thought I was terrible at taking crit and... oh boy I don't know maybe read one of my numerous posts on the subject

:celebrate:

and maybe this one from six pages back you ignored like most of the actual crit made so far

I dig that concept, a lot, but damn, that map is pure ass

Oh my god, you're an asshole.

Be more constructive with your feedback as well, please.

"You said, asshole, thats really not the best term... sensationalist blowhard is more appropriate"

Anyways, what you showed was an utter disaster. Trash it, I really don't want to be that guy (my map hurrrr), but check out Valve's maps or mine or any other well constructed well thought out DoD: S maps and you'll see that geometry like that is never attempted.

If you break a building, its gotta be a corner, part of one side or not at all. You can't just open a big chunk of it right in the dead center. I'd also start at the bridge area and work out, I didn't recognize that building and it looked like a big old generic structure. Start with the unique shit, that way your map has a sense of identity that isn't a 384 Valve textured building.

It WOULD collapse, keep in mind that SOMETHING had to blow that hole off! And it had to have a lot of power... and the force of hit/blow/whatever would push the building to collapse, geez buildings collapse because of small structural damages and this one is half missing ... but still standing

I can't really now even GUESS what happened to this building. All I see now is that it's maybe some futuristic architectural approach, air conditioning anyone? Fresh air all the time. Where all those displacement-based rubble camed from, one is hidden under ceiling... hmm.

Get some references man, You won't go too far with how it is now.
