FrieChamp Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 FrieChamp works for Crytek and I assume he'd be aware of who the engine's licensed to. Well Ubi Soft already released a selection of FarCry games (Instincs, Predator ...) using CE1, so they definitely have a license and I know that they have been modifying it as well. The question is how far they can take it - the blurry scans are really hard to judge, so although there is definitely the possibility that this is a modified CE1 engine, I don't want to exclude that it is running on something completely else. Too early for that. Maybe someone working at Ubisoft Montreal could tell us more Quote
-HP- Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 New screens! http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=81941 Quote
Zacker Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 FarCry 2 looks damn good, but it is not using any of the CryEngines. The engine is more like an individual, often a member of a group, who migrates from place to place. Edit: So I disguise the name of the engine as it's not public yet, but then an Ubi guy just mentions it a few posts down... Quote
Furyo Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 It's using Nomad, an in-house engine. Quote
st0lve Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 Alan Wake uses in-house, but I guess that'll be a newer version?I ask the same question Quote
FrieChamp Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 I think it derives from CryEngine but is so heavily modified, you can't really call it that anymore. Think Quake 1 engine and Half-Life. Edit: Damn you Furyo! It's using Nomad, an in-house engine. It is written completely from scratch? Quote
Steppenwolf Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 I have seen both games at the games Convention. If you dont know you could think they come from the same engine. The gfx quality is similar, the movement and behaviour of the foliage is similar, both have huge outdoor environments etc. Which game is better will come to the very personal choice of which kind of story you prefer imo. Crysis still has the Alien stuff while in Farcry 2 they try a realistic scenario without fancy fantasy elements. Quote
Furyo Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 I'm currently testing the Far Cry 2 engine here at Annecy, and yeah it's CE1 all over again. I was told they based it rather loosely on some previous CE1 build from the Far Cry era, and reworked it some more. First experience with the engine, and I'm loving the terrain system. I'll be damned if my version is user friendly, but that's another thing altogether... Quote
FrieChamp Posted August 24, 2007 Author Report Posted August 24, 2007 Interesting...and one thing I realize just now is - the engine is called "Nomad"? That is the player's name (delta force nickname) in Crysis. Quote
e-freak Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 yeah looked very Far-Cry Like in Leipzig but the theme is very very appealing Quote
-HP- Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Damn nice... I have to admit this really got me impressed. Quote
FrieChamp Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 Ah nice to see some footage of what I've heard so much about. Level streaming, full day/night cycles that affect AI idle jobs, burning vegetation...pretty nice. Quote
-HP- Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 burning vegetation...pretty nice. yeah, and the fire is affected by the wind, pretty neat! Quote
e-freak Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 that is close to look better than crysis imho Quote
