Seldoon182 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Jesus christ, this guy comes and says it's his first try and you're all being extremely helpful by bluntly saying it sucks. It's his first try. Quit being assholes. Quote for true mate ! -t-lk | metal-simon, this tutorial is helpful for novice. Keep testing. Quote
t-lk | metal-simon Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Now, which textures should i use? yeah and how long is a piece of string - it's not like some magical texture that we've been hiding from you is going to make your map amazing. Just say a few examples i can use for the walls and floors. Quote
Rick_D Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 yeah I'll just go and make a list of textures and then maybe take some screencaps and give you the names of them too; it'll save you the trouble of opening the texture browser and looking at them for yourself. brb I'll just go and do that for you now. Skjalg Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 A good start there, you probably should spend a couple of days, perhaps weeks before you show anyone tho Level Design isn't something you can throw together in 3 hours and expect awesome critics Quote

SnipaMasta Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 I just realised I actually didn't offer any useful comments in my last post (well, except telling people to stop being wankers about someone's first try). Anyway, your map basically needs more meaning. Everywhere looks the same - use some different textures. To decide which ones, look at real places like the ones you've modelled. The CS office textures (type 'off' into the filter, I think) would work for the office, for instance. Try and make the places more instantly recognisable, not some random room like the first screenshot. More props will also make your levels seem more believable, so crates and barrels could work - but once again appropriate use will make your levels seem more believable. Quote
Sentura Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 i've seen much worse first tries as well... i remember someone posting a pic of a house with a door and no windows right besides a building that had no doors only windows. other than that, try googling some photos of simple scenes (a road, a t junction, a house) and try modelling after that. given that you're new dont focus alot on detail, and rather just build the whole geometric thing up first. if you feel like it's coming along, start adding details and before you know it, you'll actually have a decent looking map. Grinwhrl Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 The core is for the experienced as I see it. I never touched this forum until I thought I was good enough to show off some work. metal-simon, I would suggest hitting up Iwannamap.com which is a great site for beginners and advanced to get the constructive criticism you are looking for. Also Interlopers.net is pretty great for good feedback but I would mostly recommend Iwannamap. - Cheers Quote
Rick_D Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 indeed - I still don't think i have showed off much stuff really Quote
