Managed to get into a server and stay in for more than 30s tonight, played a whole map, which one I have no idea.

My review:

Visuals good, gameplay rubbish. Its too realistic to be enjoyable. My definition of enjoyable? Not being killed by someone you saw onscreen, at distance for about 1ms.

Spawn killings seemed far too common for my liking. Lots of players gliding around the maps.

5/10

Could be worse, could be better.

This seems to be the public opinion at first... but then they play it just a little more :)

first hand impressions matter the most. ins put me off after playing for approximately 20 mins. i dont have the patience to sit through it because honestly, it's just not worth it. i'd take full spectrum warrior or any other such game over insurgency any day. they at least made their part to make it fun, and not just a show off gallery.

It's a realism mod, it's going to be hard. You're not going to run around for 20mins and fluke a load of kills like you might in CSS.

First impressions count but if you 'give up' after a short time because you keep getting killed then it really wasn't the game for you in the first place.

I dunno if it's the bad FPS, the morons roaming about or that INS is just pretty boring with their mainly linear or silly TDM "firefight" maps, but I haven't gone back to it lately and don't have the urge to do so.

Sentura, how can you say that first hand impressions matter the most after playing cave story , i agree that playing ins alone isn't that fun after a while. But one day i invited a friend over to try how it is in LAN, we had put our screens side to side, and i can tell you it's damn awesome, we were planning tactics, covering each other, even using covering fire to pin the ennemies down so the other could pass the street, and we were totally slaughtering the other guys :P .

Infact i see insurgency like an easy step for CSS/DOD players to get into more complex FPS like RedOrchestra/Armed Assault (which i'm a fan), but ofcourse that kind of realistic stuff isn't everyone's thing. I mean it's not about killing people, it's about surviving as long as possible under the bullets :D

You got your own opinion, that's cool, but you just didn't played the game how it is meant to be played.

Yea it's a good game and I don't doubt it can be fun if it's played with some voice com stuff (and pretty much own a pub because you have a better control of your weapons in comparison to css or dods and can kill people very quickly), but for me it doesn't bring the long time motivation RO has to offer with its variety of big maps and tank/inf maps.

Only map that kept me going back to INS a couple times is sinjar as US, but damn is the majority of players too dumb to run up to A at the beginning of the round.

I also think that it would be more interesting if different objectives could be taken the same time, like A and D on sinjar, making it more interesting for the INS team plus some more maps where the INS team got something to do other than defending with their unlimited reenforcements.

i found cave story very appealing even though it is made the oldskool way. i love games like jetpack and i dont really mind exchanging favorable gameplay for graphics. in the instance of games like god of war, you'll get both awesome graphics and awesome gameplay, so for me that's like getting 2 for 1's price.

admittedly though, i do tend to take a different approach when it comes to rpgs. usually customization sucks me in alot there, and i love having options like that. in the event of boring gameplay you can always step back and just admire how awesome your character looks for some time before going back to whatever it was you were doing at the given point.

i rarely seem to find games that dont directly appeal to me (save sports games), but lately i've found a few which didn't just do it for me, one being ins (because of the realism), the other being killzone (sloppy controls made me want to kill my console).

First impressions count but if you 'give up' after a short time because you keep getting killed then it really wasn't the game for you in the first place.

this was my point exactly, although there are some games that step beyond that point (like, for instance, beyond good and evil) and end up actually being kickass. for me it depends on various effects that come to mind once i play a given game.

what i said about rather playing full spectrum warrior than this is because i feel insurgency is the first step towards "over-realism" in that way that games are becoming too realistic even for a real life standard. full spectrum warrior offers basically the same gameplay, but you get full control over a number of people rather than just prancing about getting shot every time you spawn. even battlefield 2142 does it better. those 2 other games mentioned aren't about killing as much as possible either, it is about survival - but in either a less over realistic way and definitely a more fun way. when i played ins i felt it like doing a chore, and honestly, i dont want to feel that way with any game.

read it, dont read it, make of it what you want, but that is my opinion. also, take into consideration that i am writing this at 5 am, so i apologize for any lack in cohension in what i wrote.

objectives + non linear maps could make ins shine more. i stopped playing each map when i realized that there was only one route to the other side (with no reason to go there) that either team had well secured.

RO had me hooked after 5 minutes, that game is realistic and fun in my opinion. Maybe the polishing in it counts.

INS had me tearing hair out after 5 minutes.

What version of RO? I hope the very first (of the mod) or else your point is flawed.

Why would his point be flawed? I had more fun with crappier versions of mods. INS is basically what cs once was, on source and in Iraq. Just that it's not new and pretty boring after a while. At least for me :P

You guys compare a game (RO) that was released years ago and has seen lots of polishing and development since then with something that isnt even a month old and still in betas. Thats pretty lame from you if you ask me.

I would have expect better in a developer/modding community like mapcore.
