I can't play because the loading panel stays over the screen and either goes black/wireframe or checkerboard. I can see people joining/leaving the server but I can't quit or bring up the menu or anything.

I actually got into 2 servers today.

Then had a connection failed as soon as I ran more than 5 or so steps.

Might sound really stupid, but how long is it been since you actually played hl2? What I'm trying to say is, that after steam updated hl2, sometimes you need to run hl2 to get other mods working again.

You know, the eyes on the US soldier in the menu background really bothers me...

the eyes bugged me a bit because i'd expect a more adrenaline pumping charging into a room look but its not that big of a deal. his nose on the otherhand bugs me, if you followed his nose through the oggles it isn't even close to lining up.

i love that picture though, aside from the nose i think it is absolutely fantastic. whoever drew it is talented.

i played the game here and there, it definitely looks amazing, but of the maps i played i found them insanely linear creating fucking terrible chokepoints. i also find the movement too limited in some respects. the newest map, i think its hillah, has ramps out of its spawns to prevent the other team from getting in. the usmc has 3 exits, one has a fucking car parked outside you can easily hop up and get right into their spawn. i thought that was the dumbest thing ever and had to be mentioned. obviously its their first release and its excellent in that respect, i'd give it a few more months until i become obsessed with it

But if thats the case, why do all the other SourceMods work fine?

If you're using official mods, they're a bit tied into HL2 itself better. Indeed, if you don't have HL2 installed at all, they'll download/update then necessary bits so they can work.

I'm assuming INS doesn't do this and just sits as a totally standalone thing, hooking into HL2 on the assumption it's there and updated.

all of a sudden, insurgency is crapping out a lot more than normal. i can join servers, pick a side and a class, but as soon as i spawn, the game instantaniously hangs.

anyone else seen this?
