low poly contests

what if everyone models the car they own, or a bike, or a bus, or whatever you use for transport, making a clean and a dirty/rusty version? that'd be SO useful for a lot of people! with a very limited polycount and a texture of no more than 512² or 1024², what do you say?

How about low poly ships: 500 tris max - 256x256 diffuse + normal/spec/opacity

This sounds fun. I haven't done normal, specular or opacity maps before on models tho, i can't either figure out why such a lowpoly model would need spec or normal map (except for practise purpose), model would be used on old engine with no such capabilities, so it's kinda pointeless doing them.. right? :???:

Think he meant why bother using normal & spec maps? I agree, they look shit on low-res textures anyway. And sticking to diffuse only keeps it simple.

What about bodyparts?

Everyone decides whether he's modeling an arm or a leg or the head and so on. no limitations, every kind of style.
