Rick_D Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Primarily aimed at the artists out there (which should be in abundance here at mapcore : ) - What sort of questions were you asked, were there any that had you stumped ? What kind of questions can I expect and do you have any links to articles/musings on the kind of thing companies ask you? Just trying to prepare myself as best as I can, any help is appreciated - thanks guys Quote
Synthesizer Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 I was mostly asked to just go more in depth into things I had written on my resume. Things like "What sort of things did you learn at school", "What did you do working at such and such place", and questions about my reel. They wanted to know what tools I used, what I had experience doing, etc. I got one that really stumped me, how to draw a square using two lines... After being shown one way I managed to come up with a way of doing it that the interviewer hadn't seen before, so that was cool. Then they wanted me to ask questions from them, that was the tough bit. I just sort of asked what their work flow was like, and other random things. My best advice is to just take it easy and don't be too formal. For me it mostly just ended up being a chat about what I was all about. I had 3 interviews, and 3 job offers, so I think I do ok in interviews Some good advice I got from a friend was that "Your reel shows them that you are right for the job, the interview is to show that you aren't wrong for it." Just don't do anything crazy and you should be alright. Good luck! Quote

KoKo5oVaR Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Yes, i'm really intrigued, with only 2 straight lines ? Quote
hessi Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 i didnt hear of this question before but i would take a piece of paper and make a square with one of the corners. like 2 lines painting and 2 lines of paper border. think different Quote
Bic-B@ll Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 draw two lines tear paper so you have two lines tear in half make box i thought of waht hessi said too that or you can draw two parallel lines starggered and fold two 45 degree angles across them and fold the paper over. it'll look like a box through the paper Quote
Hourences Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Im currently writing a piece on that. The current questions I have, which are the most common ones I think, are: Who are you? Can you describe yourself briefly? What have you worked on and made in the past? Why should we hire you? What kind of addition would you be to our team? Why are you interested? What's your best quality? What's your worst? Where and how do you see yourself in five years? What do you expect of your office? Any special requirements? Would you be interested in extra schooling? What kind of games do you like or dislike and why? Can you handle working full-time 40 hours a week on a project without getting bored or distracted? Can you handle a relocation without running into emotional trouble and homesickness? If anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to reply and help me out as well Quote

TeddyBear Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 Two interesting questions I got were: Which game in history do you think looks best and why? What makes a game graphically excelling? Quote
Zacker Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 I went through multiple interview stages and interviews by different people and the questions they asked differed quite a lot. It was not as much talking about my portfolio pictures, which they as they said had had plenty of time to look at already. Quote

You can also make 4 boxes by drawing crossing lines that extend to the edges of the paper, and 3 boxes by drawing two parallel lines. The "what is your favorite game" one was asked as well. At one place I did the multiple stages thing, but by the end, it was pretty much the same questions. Quote
