tomdon Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 I am getting my showreel done at double quick pace as I am wanting to get it sent off to a company tonight. http://tomdon.net/showreel.php http://tomdon.net/ There is no "design" as such on the website, its just a list of my stuff. Its still wip so the links may not work, and you cant get from the main page to the showreel as yet. Looking for some feedback see if there is anything major I have missed. Quote
Evert Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 nice! I'd remove the battlegrounds-levels though, they are no where near the other pieces quality. Quote
Grinwhrl Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 I thought the Battleground levels were fine in there except you didnt really show much of your playable levels. I enjoyed the reel overall. Nice stuff. Quote
Rick_D Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 very nice, i like it all Maybe a bit more of your animation reel, 1 minute is a bit short and it doesn't show off some of that stuff, which is really nice. Quote
JamesL Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 From the perspective of a potential employer one thing I'd be interested in knowing about would be exactly what everything I am seeing in the video was. Captions in the corner of the screen with the following kinds of info pimping exactly what you made in the scenes: BattleGrounds Mod Created in: Valve Hammer editor 100% custom textures, character, environment models & skybox Urban Exploration scene Created in VHE /3DSM / PS-CS2 100% custom materials & models You need to pimp yourself as much as humanly possible in your reel without overwhelming your viewer. It is your 30 seond chance to persuade them to look further into you and your skillset. Use as many hooks as you possibly can to try and get them to check out more of your stuff. Just my 2p though, perhaps the more art-centric pros here think this is a bad idea for a reel? Quote
hessi Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 check your links. newtreethumb is linked to newface. kind of unprofessional to not check it through :X on your showreel stays grey on my mac. why don't you use such things as flash movieplayer or a standard streaming format? or make the video avaible via download link. don't you want that people might download your portfolio? though i could play wmv files on my mac your HTML kind of disables quicktime to run. ifO Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 I can't stream it either, could you provide a download link? Edit: Oh I grabbed the link from the page source, hope that's okay. Quote
tomdon Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 http://itsabeast.com/Tom_Darroch_Showreel.wmv Download link is going on there as we speak, thanks for the heads up on the wrong link. I had not gone through them all yet. But shall do that now. Quote
tomdon Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 Promentory, The Last Of The Mohicans: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Quote

Buddy Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Downloading... what company are You going to apply to? Quote
tomdon Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 I am throwing one out quickly to stainless, the people who made carmagedon as they are after level designers. The best bit is they are just up the road from me. If nothing happens there, I guess I will send it out to most companys in the uk . Quote
Buddy Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Ok watched it, I would start the reel with 7th shoot you currently have, the huge abandoned house thing, then the first shoots and I would take out Battle Grounds stuff since they are diferent quality than the newest works, maybe somehow because of the stupid movements of players . Good Luck. Quote
General Vivi Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 looks very nice overall ! id tap that designer Quote
