zaphod Posted March 10, 2008 Author Report Posted March 10, 2008 :megaman: :megaman: :megaman: MEGA-UPDATE :megaman: :megaman: :megaman: we had our lan party playtest last night, it went really well! Brian has been working a ton of hours getting the networking portion of our game far along enough to have our first Zero Gear play test, which we hosted at a LAN party this weekend. It seemed to be a great success and everyone seemed to have a great time driving around their characters even if we didn't have any real race rules in place yet. I was able to grab a lot of footage and I pieced together a little video, click the image below: Here are a few action photos of the Zero Gear party in progress, it was great to see people having fun! Psyshokiller Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Oh my god that looks too sweet. The carts flying around and all. Quote
e-freak Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 nice - allthough i miss something that makes the car look badass in the network-games. and some more speed-feeling (but that might be because we are just watching and not driving ourselves) Quote
Ginger Lord Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Awesome. I take it if you go off course you're gonna make the karts slow down? Quote

We want to do little touches like particles coming off the wheels depending on the surface you are on, the camera pulling back just a little the faster you go, and of course skidding / sliding. We were thinking of increasing the fov and doing some motion blur once we get our boosting mechanic in there too. Quote
dissonance Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Ahaha! I love that video! 1812 Overture was a perfect choice... I can't wait to play. Quote
Sindwiller Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 I see... you see... we all see... IJkL layout and a G15 Quote
Jenn0_Bing Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 That looks so awesome. Video was great, it already looks good fun to play. Quote
e-freak Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 mh i remember powerups from a lego-racer game which could be combined (like get two rockets and it is double power, get three rockets and you have an A-Bomb to throw at enemies) -> combined with additional submodels (like taking up a mg-powerup and you have a fat gatlink on your car) and some FOV-Effects (as you described and a lower-going camera (the faster you go the more the cam is going near to the ground and such stuff) would be my wet dreams Quote
Meotwister Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 That video made me wish there was a demolition derby game mode. looks more fun everyday! Quote
Acumen Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 i don't know if it's the camera of the video, but imo the characters are way too small on the screen on the still images below the video it looks quite nice, but on the video it looks soooo tiny ~~ if that should be player view i'd like to ask if you tried scaling the characters up to like 125-150% and see how it looks, cause i don't like how all the nice character and car detail plops away with tiny tiny view scale i don't know and on top of that, the racetracks look rather empty with the characters being that small. it's definately something i would like to have some kind of comparison for, to get a better idea of how it would look like i think you take away a lot of the charme with showing the characters, you can customize so nice, at such a size :/ Quote
