von*ferret Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 You may place your suggestions on future contests and how we run them pre and post contest here. The purpose of this thread is not to get your hopes up but to get a sample of the feelings you guys have about contests. With this information moderators might be able to create more popular contests like the 1024 one we had. Please only comment if you're in fact willing to enter the contest. Quote
Buddy Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 As said in the other thread, a small sp map contest is good idea, but I would give it more time than 2-3 weeks. Quote
Buddy Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 With custom content this time. Gameplay is priority though. No size limitation! Quote
Bluestrike Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 make the official submissions thread right away so you don't miss the thread if you forget to check a couple of days and asumed the other thread was good enough > Quote
von*ferret Posted May 10, 2007 Author Report Posted May 10, 2007 If you have an opinion support it. For instance, if you dont want custom content, why dont you want custom content? A simple "no custom content" is a poor argument and could be easily ignored. Just my 12 cents. Quote

This will give a huge advantage to the folks that do. Quote
Pericolos0 Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 I think it should be allowed. If we do singleplayer i'd like to add some custom sounds and effects. If the focus is create a good singleplayer level, having the thing in all custom content should be allowed but it wouldn't be the focus of the competition. a map with no custom content should have thesame chances of winning. skdr Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 I think scene based contest would be nice. Like "Make a Bridge-scene" or "beach-scene". These scenes could be more specific like "create a jungle bridge scene" or "create a stone age bridge scene" or something like that. Oh and I think we should use stock models and textures, no custom content. That's what I think is the best for everyone. Quote
Quakis Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 Limited amount of brushes to use to see how creative people can be with what they are allowed to use. Most interesting approach to using only 1 enemy type for a small singleplayer map, possibly limiting the size of the map as well to keep things balanced per entry. Most interesting approach to an "upside-down" map or "wierd-world" through the use of structure and lighting, while looking good and playing well in either DM/SP? Best and most interesting usage of 5 (or a little more/less) selected textures from the default resources to create any type of small scene. Or even, the best usage of either purple/green lighting in a scene, nightclubs don't count. All the above limited to the game's original content at hand. I don't know if these are any good but at least they're a change from size*size*size or "create dm map..." contests. Quote
Erratic Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 I'm for either custom or no custom. If it does get started, the focus will primarily be gameplay anyway (I'd hope) so having the option available is fine, doesn't mean you have to use it. Quote
Vinny Testaverde Posted May 10, 2007 Report Posted May 10, 2007 How about using no content at all? Or no textures at least. Just have geometry of flat solid colors. Thats forces you to think about lighting, brushwork, architecture, the actual space etc, also gameplay and layout. could yield interesting results. Most modern architecture today uses little texture in their materials. examples: http://www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/blogon/upload/2006/06/zaha2.jpg http://www.guggenheim.org/hadid/images/highlights3.jpg It will stretch the imagination more and you probably get the most original source engine maps. just a thought...
