Look, if you're into games that feature mindless slaughter of people/animals/objects whatever with the possibility of a bland storyline intertwined, then by all means go for it. You're like the average slob that requires no more than such urges to be satisfied. You probably don't give a shit about background (story wise) or anything like that. You want games that offer you simplicity that you can understand and you want the game's logic to be beneath yours.

Let's look into what wow (used as an example) really offers:

-gameplay: you get to upgrade your equipment, run through various environments, level up and generally do what you can to prove yourself the strongest and the bestest of all. You will also feature in bland pvp battles much reesembling deathmatches (or other classic game modes); however you only got one life and your equipment matters.

You of course need to have the superior gear to everyone so that you can prove to others that you have been using countless hours at a game and that whatever you do skill wise in pvp has little significance because equipment dominates the game throughoutly.

-storyline: something about horde versus alliance. no main plot, but picks up from where warcraft 3 left. Used to present two different factions which are at war with each other. You have little or no influence on the story, and you don't really care about it.

-quests: Pretty much ending up in either a) fetch item from place, b) kill person in place or c) both. Nothing interesting, nothing gripping. The storyline to the quests is lame at best, but who cares anyway?

-raids: Large expeditions to dangerous areas, used for getting loot and thus better items (which are essential since you posses no skill whatsoever). These take upwards from hours to a day to complete, and there are chances you won't get any items at all.

conclusion: You end up spending countless hours on these few things, possibly alone, possibly with a guild/clan/group/raid. The only way you figure out this is fun is because of either the ingame social structure or that you keep encouraging each other. You don't care for much else as long as you get the best equipment, the greatest titles and reach the to. Now keep in mind there might be 0 to 1 of the "best" people on each server, each one having the same goals as you. With servers housing thousands of players at any given time, what are your chances?

In the meantime, there are players that focus on games where skill has more to say than equipment, but since you're too weak to join those and beat them on their level, you'd best just stay in your confined mmo world.

I think it's a pile of shit. :celebrate:

I don't know how they'll pull off starcraft, if at all. Of course, we'll have to wait almost two years to see anything substantial. I don't want to gawk at some cg movie that will be released on the 19th.

Nice to see when you post something with some thought behind it, it’s still a troll.

Your biggest complaint seems there's no developable story in a MMO, and there's a reliance on gear and levelling in an RPG. Do I need to explain the fallacy here? And your gear dependency hyperboles are off the chart - those strategies linked on the previous page as case-of-point weren't "Get Better Gear" in 72-point font.

This is the umpteenth time someone in this thread says this, but entertainment is subjective. You however seem to direct malice at not only a game, but the supposed skill less drones that play it, on the basis of gameplay traits consistent throughout the entire genre. And that, outside of your inflammatory zeal, is fine. Yet you originally stated that WoW, like some kind of Borg, assimilates games you like the look of – meaning you actually do like the genre, with it’s static story, gear, levelling and quests, leaving me confused. What game WoW has sucked the players from that left you so bitter?
