Izuno Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 6 million people disagree If by 6 million you meant 11.5 million to date...then yeah. I would love to see a new Starcraft RTS rather than Starcraft MMO.

ifO Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 You mapcorians are really big on getting your numbers right eh? In future I will just say 'large amount'.
mabufo Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Have you ever played WoW? It's mindless. I actually find it hard to believe that there are 8 million subscribers or whatever. The quests were lame, and the whole battlegrounds thing was grossly overrated. Don't even get me started with the rudeness of the playerbase. One mmo I really did enjoy was EVE Online. Contrary to popular belief this game is both hardcore, or casual. I suppose you'd just have to try it to understand what I mean, but they balance skill training with the gameplay very nicely. Eve's playerbase is growing exponentially as well. EDIT: Of course, it sucks that I have to pay monthly for it.. I wish there was something like guildwars set in space... I like space.

Sentura Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 6 million people disagree If by 6 million you meant 11.5 million to date...then yeah. I would love to see a new Starcraft RTS rather than Starcraft MMO. Out of that many people, how many do you think are kids and/or people you dont want to play with? I have been through 4 different mmos, some with idiots, some with normal people... but wow just takes the cake. The only reason the people playing other mmo's switch to wow, is that wow sucks up everyone else, leaving them with no one to play with. I really hope that the new mmo's that will come out in 07-08 will take the throne away from wow. People who say that wow is a great game are the same people that think "halo" was a great game. What the fuck people, what the fuck.
wacko Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 yea.. that is a poor line of logic, the avg wow player is somewhere between the ages of 26-34, which I think if you asked those folk they would not define themselves as "kids" or people no one wants to play with. I think what you forget is what makes wow a playable game compared to other MMO's and that is the learning curve... The reason you get a large player base is because the game is easier then most MMO's and I think someone else mentioned tayloring to the elite and that is dead on. Blizzard makes games that everyone can play, with little knowledge on how to play them. Of course does this allow for a couple sour apples? sure, but in the overall scope of things it turns out well.
wacko Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 ha... I do not think you have to work there to see what they did right and why they have a large player base.

Quendae Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 WoW is waste of time and money, we need Starcraft 2 - proper RTS, with graphic kinda C&C3, but no similar to Warcraft 3 full of colour shit. It must be dark and cold like the first one was, with little amount of humour. And ofcourse multi must be great like the old one
Thrik Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 The vast majority of people play World of Warcraft for the social networking aspect of it, an incredibly powerful force, and not the gameplay at all. This is kind of obvious when you think about it because not only is the gameplay dull, but it's also monotonous, uninspired, mundane and wholly fails to engage the play in any kind of meaningful action. It is the size and variety of the game world that makes the social aspect so appealing and alluring, and not so much the artistic direction, epic world, etc. Games like Second Life have proven that being even remotely visually appealing is not a requirement as long as the size and variety is there. If Blizzard can harness these same ingredients in its next game, it doesn't really matter what the game is as long as the theme sounds appealing to a lot of people. It's then guaranteed to be a success. Let nobody argue with my opinion for it is correct in every single way.
