uNsaiN Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 I've just finished my second CSS map de_Strife. It's a medium to large sized defuse map that takes place around a group of storage warehouses. Screenshots: You can view more screenshots and download it here. Looking forward to hearing your input and maybe playing it on a server with some of you guys. Quote
Minos Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Not bad, looks like a solid map. Try a different theme next time though Quote
JamesL Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 You mapping skills look good but as said previously, it is very generic in terms of theme; de_train_nuke. A few custom textures and models would go a long way towards differentiating it from the crowd. Can't comment on the playability since I haven't tried it out Quote
D3ads Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 For fuck's sake guys, if you're going to tell him it looks 'boring' or 'generic' then at least explain why! It lacks a lot in details, for instance in the first shot you could do with some more decals/trash/boxes/vents etc, the ground just looks too clean for my liking. Similarly in the second shot, the left hand wall looks very bare and would look better if there was some kind of pipe network/drainage system/vents running alongside it. Custom assets always go along way, so there's something to think about next time. For your second released map, it's not too bad really, look forward to seeing your next release Quote
Furyo Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 The lighting could be improved, and that would be a first important step towards making the map better. Add contrast Quote
hessi Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 looks a lot like de_train (while watching the screenshots). don't know what to say. it's definitly a solid work, but it heavily lacks of originality. i would give it a 6 out of 10 points. technically it seems okay but i miss new stuff. Quote
Warby Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 don't you think the multi texture material on the ground displacement would look better if it would get dark towards the edges and be bright in the center ??? Quote
Buddy Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 For me, it's de_nuke_assault . Try some diferent theme, be more original. I'm judging it after looking at the screenshots only tho. Quote
OrnateBaboon Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 When I tried to extract the map from the rar, I kept getting a file corruption message. Has anyone been able to play it? Quote
Alf-Life Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Looks like a solid map; like everyone else said, no glaring huge errors. It's just... a warehouse has to be the most boring setting ever (although if you're not using custom textures and assets, it's probably the wisest choice given Valve's stuff). Quote
hessi Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 When I tried to extract the map from the rar, I kept getting a file corruption message. Has anyone been able to play it? indeed. he didnt upload the complete file. man i hate to be such rude, but this is really noob-style to release a map that no one can extract. i hope you better try out for your self next time. though a release of 2,7Mbyte with 3kbyte/s isnt very satisfying. He made a mistake, no need to be so harsh :\ Frankly, while the setting is generic, few settings actually are - I mean if you make a map in a small village it's easily comparable to Inferno or Italy. I think more could have been done to make the world more detailed but otherwise it's good. Learning how to make custom content would benefit you since you would have to rely less on the default stuff - but then it keeps file size down and for this kind of map, it's not very necessary given the content available.
